LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 25/03/2017 VS WATTON (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 25/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 25/03/2017 HEADLINE: City back in with a chance of league victory ! LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:3:0 REPORT: Buoyed on by the news that Dragons had beaten Magpies in the morning, City girls knew they had to beat Watton this afternoon to still be in with a shout of winning the league. No umbrellas this week but glorious sunshine & so the mood was good but they still had 60 minutes of hockey to play against Watton to be in with a chance With none of the coaches available this week to run the team, captain Kate Houldey stepped up to be both captain & team organiser & did a great job of moving the girls around & making sure everyone had equal game play & tried new positions. The first quarter City started strong & were quickly rewarded with a goal blasted in by Franny Byrne . They continued to pile on the pressure. Most of the play was up the left hand side of the pitch with POTM Grace Adams & POTM Freya Myhill passing swiflty between each other & getting the ball into the D but no more goals came. 1:0 but still a long way to go. The second quarter & City again started strongly & there was some fabulous play in the centre from Kate & newcomer Maggie Bean & eventually Franny managed to hit the back of the net again from a very wide angle on the left of the goal. 2:0. The play moved a little more to the right with Sophie Duez & Frances Underhill passing some great balls up to Millie Wimhurst but no more goals. 2:0 at half time ! Another shift around in the 3rd quarter & Simran Rai who had been fantastic in defence moved to play further forward & got plenty of balls back from Watton & pushed them up front. Evie Thorpe who had been battling in the D to no avail eventually got what she deserved with the 3rd goal for City. The defence of Maggie Mayo & GK Charlotte Read held strong & Watton barely had a chance & as the sun went down , Charlotte got colder. In the 4th quarter City remained strong with several chances created by the midfield of Grace, Maddie Smith,Frances & Sophie up into the D & tantalising close misses followed. Freya nearly scored at least 3 times but sadly the Watton defence stood firm. Evie & Millie also had shots on goal but they were saved. Unfortunately Charlotte ,city GK at the other end from the action got even colder !! FINAL WHISTLE & a well-deserved victory for City. One more game stands between the girls & the title-bring on Dereham next week !!! Well done to all who played, it was a joy to watch

W (2-1) 18/03/2017 - LD vs Norwich Dragons (A / L) SECOND PLACE SECURED (AT LEAST)! |

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 18/03/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 18/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 18/03/2017 HEADLINE: Second Place Secured (at least)! LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 2:1 REPORT: Knowing that a win would guarantee second place in the league with two games still to play, the team entered the “Den” watched by a sea of large coloured umbrellas. Beneath, an expectant crowd of parents huddled together for warm. The absence of some team stalwarts created an opportunity for others to shine, and shine they did with a convincing 55-minute display that ended in a 2:1 win. However, as seems to be traditional with Dragons, the girls always enjoy leaving a final 5-minute defending frenzy to test the coaches’ mettle. Starting with only 11 players, buoyed by the knowledge that re-enforcements would be arriving from Beeston, the team made a settled start. Frances Underhill had been charged with marking the know Dragon’s playmaker and she duly ran her socks off keeping her under wraps which left Maddie Smith; Sophie Duez; and Fraya Myhill space to play well in the middle of the park. The quarter saw possession evenly split with neither side creating convincing opportunities, primarily due to some stubborn and controlled defending by Sabina Baker on the left, assisted by the habitual strong hitting of Lottie Smith. Although Daisy had to watch the ball out on a few occasions, the more physical and aggressive Dragons team never seriously threatened. Honours even. The second quarter saw the ball being spread to the flanks more effectively with some penetrating runs by Mille Wimhurst on the left and Naimh Campbell on the right creating half chances. This, coupled with terrier like running and harassing of Evie-May Thorpe, served to maintain the pressure on the Dragons back line and they struggled to escape their half. Having been joined by the reassuring presence of Kate Houdley in mid-field and Lucy Jenkinson in defence, ‘fresh’ from a morning of netball, Evie-May was eventually duly rewarded for all her efforts when the ball was driven into the D and she was able to slot home with confidence from near the spot. A deserved 1:0 lead at half-time. The team maintained their domination at the beginning of the third quarter. Opportunities continued to be created by Grace Adams, Maddie and Kate as well as by Naimh, on the right, and a penalty corner resulted. Injected well by Sabina, Kate struck majestically from the top of the D resulting in the reassuring “thud” from the left corner of the backboard. Queue a second opportunity for half the crowd to engage in some cheering to warm themselves up as the heavens continued to empty on NR1. Thereafter however, Dragons slowly dragged themselves back into the action with multiple attacks coming from their right flank. This resulted in some sporadic shots on goal, one necessitating a sharp save by Daisy to her right and another leading to two consecutive penalty corners. These were both well defended, not least by Lottie repelling one looping shot with a tennis serve action that ejected the ball far out of the D and away from harm. 2:0 with 15 minutes to go. Dragons started the last quarter strongly, their focus again on their right flank. An early reshuffling of our midfield seemed to contain that threat and we still threatened ourselves. As all looked reasonably comfortable, it was a disappointing surprise that with one fast move a Dragons forward was presented with a close-range opportunity which was well saved, twice, by Daisy only for the second strong kick away to defect back off the Dragons player into the goal. Without the benefit of a video replay it will remain debatable whether it was from a stick or foot but the goal stood and so the aforesaid defensive frenzy began. The girls were intent on attempting to hit out (rather than play out) of defence which simply handed possession back to Dragons for them to restart their attacks. Although no clear opportunities were created it still left nerves jangling until the final whistle, the sound of which cemented a deserved 2:1 victory. Some excellent performances throughout the game with Evie-May justifiably picking up player of the match. Well done girls, lets win the last two games and hope Dragon’s beat Harleston next week!

W (6-0) 04/03/2017 - LD vs Yarmouth (H / L) A WELL-EARNED WIN FOR DEVS GIRLS |
---|
LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 04/03/2017 VS YARMOUTH (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 04/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 04/03/2017 HEADLINE: A well-earned win for Devs Girls LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT:6:0 REPORT: Norwich City 6 Yarmouth 0 The girls put in a superb all round hockey display, improving during each quarter, to see off a competitive Yarmouth team. The first quarter saw most of the play in the Yarmouth half with attacks from Abi Flatt down the left channel being thwarted. Towards the end of the quarter Abi Hill and Maddie Smith saw more of the ball down the right-hand side and after a good interchange between Effie Bowley and Maddie the ball was released down the right flank for Niamh Campbell to drive towards the circle and her pass found Abi Flatt whose second attempt at goal squeezed in at the near post. With a change of personnel during the second quarter and a shuffling of positions, the girls began moving the ball around sweetly and Frances Underhill became more influential. Millie Beard making her debut settled in seamlessly and worked well alongside the tireless Lucy Jenkinson to snuff out the occasional Yarmouth foray into our half. Although no goals were scored the positives were the number of penalty corners that were won and chances created. The second half began with a bang as the ball was recycled quickly from left to right giving Niamh another chance to cross the ball and player of the match Frances arrived to score a great goal. In an almost carbon copy move Sabina Baker and Lottie Smith worked the ball to the right releasing Niamh whose cross this time saw Evie Thorpe's first time slap shot beat the Yarmouth keeper. With confidence rising Frances and Abi's dominant running saw the girls create chance after chance with Freya Myhill being unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. The final quarter continued in the same Niamh finding Abi again to make the score 4-0. The girls continued to push forward and after a good tackle from Grace Adams and great support work from Abi Hill, Abi F raced to the circle and her shot was pushed under the goalkeeper's foot by Evie. With almost the last play of the game Abi completed her hat trick with a deflected shot that went in off a Yarmouth defender. It was a real privilege to watch the girls perform so well and with great team work and spirit throughout. A special mention must go to Imogen Bassett who kept the substitutes entertained with plenty of dancing and dabs as she was a virtual spectator in goal for the match. Greame Campbell

D (1-1) 25/02/2017 - LD vs Harleston Magpies (A / L) TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH FRUSTRATION |
---|
LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 25/02/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 25/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 25/02/2017 HEADLINE: Top of the Table Clash Frustration LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston RESULT: 1 : 1 REPORT: Frustration - “the feeling of being annoyed as a result of being unable to achieve something” Assembling early on a Saturday morning in Suffolk, the team faced another top of the table clash against Magpies. Fielding a strong team, hopes were high that Norwich could continue their long running winning streak meaning the race for the title would then be in their own hands. Unfortunately, in what seems to have become an unwelcome regular feature, Norwich were sluggish from the off. Bunching together, fluidity was absent with wide players being sucked into an increasingly congested midfield. Consequently, chances were few and far between for either side, although the solid defence of Lottie; Sabina; and Lucy never looking seriously threatened. As the quarter progressed however, Norwich became increasingly dominant. The left flank was beginning to generate some opportunities with excellent play from both Frances Underhill and Frances Bryne beginning to look promising, as did the solitary attack on the right created by Maddie and Lucy Wimhurst. Ultimately, however, the quarter ended with not a single shot on either goal. In an effort to maximize the opportunities for all players, Norwich made four substitutions for the second quarter. Unfortunately, with hindsight, this unsettled the team and any momentum engendered by the end of the first quarter was lost. Whilst the unchanged defence remained strong, it took time for the new players to find their feet in the game but again, Norwich slowly began to build momentum. Kate and Matilda remained resolute in midfield and strong pushes into the final third from Abi; Niamh and Evie resulted in two, ultimately unconverted penalty corners. Other attacks were neutralized by the strong Magpies lady player who marshalled their back four and the half ended with a near miss at the far post for Magpies, one of their few forays close to the posts. A very even half and the match hung in the balance. Norwich began the second half strongly despite an enforced changed that saw Lottie swapping positions with Kate meaning she was playing in an unfamiliar midfield role. Her strong strikes helped Frances Underhill, and then Effie, to generate some strong left wing attacks with Abi and Frances Bryne looking threatening at the top of the D. Niamh also created chances on the right and this led to a penalty corner which Matilda injected strongly allowing Frances Bryne to release a pile driver shot from the top of the D into the bottom left corner. Nothing less than Norwich deserved and relief all round. However, Magpies were never out of the game and always looked threatening, beginning to build pressure for the remainder of the quarter as Norwich defended deep in their final third. Norwich found it increasingly difficult to break out of their half but a sharp save by Daisy to her left meant the quarter ended with Norwich maintaining their lead. In the final quarter the team were encouraged to pressure Magpies further up the pitch. This relieved the defensive pressure and further chances were created by both flanks and some good runs by Matilda. Norwich retained the majority of the possession in the Magpies half but the chances were never clear cut and it looked like the quarter would remain goalless until, in the final minute, a long pass from defence caught Norwich out. Daisy did well to repel the initial approach and shots but eventually the attacker moved around her and slotted home. Hugely disappointing and frustrating. Final result 1:1. Post-match, although the team felt like they had lost, a reality check is needed. With five games to go, only 70% of the season has been played. The chance of clinching the title remains, particularly with the improving Dragons and Dereham teams still likely to play a crucial part. Chins up girls: be frustrated and disappointed but ultimately, not distracted. We are all still learning; everything is still to play for; and you all have a role to fulfil. Next time I will also remember to wear my lucky socks!

W (3-2) 11/02/2017 - LD vs Norwich Dragons Devs (A / L) HARD FOUGHT VICTORY |
---|
LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 11/02/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS DEVS (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 11/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 11/02/2017 HEADLINE: Hard Fought Victory LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 3:2 REPORT: “Nourish your hopes, but do not overlook realities.” Winston Churchill One minute to go. The ball breaks to a Dragons forward at the top of the D. All alone, its one on one. A mass of orange OBO foam remains Norwich’s only hope. There is a collective intake of breath from the sidelines and, as if in slow motion, Daisy advances to form an effective barrier for the final time thereby securing Norwich’s 3-2 victory. What a team effort! A story of four quarters; incredible commitment all round; and a stunning, hard fought, but ultimately, well deserved victory. What seemed like hours earlier, the team had collected in the inhospitable Dragon’s car park, the wind chill bringing the temperature to below freezing. Ahead, no easy task. This was now a three-horse race for the title and Dragons, until today, were coming up fast on the outside rail. Norwich nourish the hope of the title but a large, imposing Dragons team, clearly motivated for victory, remained today’s reality. The first quarter saw little space for either party to expose. Norwich had packed its midfield with creative quality, Kate Houldey; Abi Hill; Matilda Butterworth and debutant Effie Bowley. However, Dragons had clearly adopted the same approach, their own midfield creating multiple chances that were ultimately neutralized by the imperious Sabina Baker, ably assisted by the tenacious Lucy Jenkinson who had a super game. With Loulou being sidelined due to a crack on the thumb (thank you to Mrs Hill for the heads up), Frances Underhill was pressganged into resuming a defensive role in which she excelled. End of the first quarter, a fair draw. The second quarter started with much better shape from Norwich. Passes began to connect and the flanks began to create more opportunities for the front line, Niamh Campbell and Fraya MyHill creating some super opportunities that culminated in Abi Flatt striking solidly from the top of the D to open the scoring. Unfortunately, initial jubilance was gradually eroded as Dragons increased their pressure. Three successive penalty corners resulted. The first two were successfully repelled with good saves from Daisy and the assistance of Maggie Mayo, but eventually penalty corner fatigue saw the ball unconvincingly edged over the line. Score 1:1. The second-half necessitated a new approach. Kate was tasked with marking the Dragon’s creative player out of the game. Despite this being at the cost of her own expansive play, it opened up the park for Matilda and Niamh, brilliantly supported by Lucy Wimhurst and then Grace Adams. As a result, the third quarter belonged to Norwich. Attack after attack resulted in Niamh scoring with a superb reverse stick strike from distance and Abi Flatt scored a third soon thereafter, squeezing it between a defender’s legs and over the line. Throughout, Abi Hill proved to be an excellent conduit between defence and attack and Matilda appeared omnipotent in midfield. Not a single shot on Norwich’s goal in this quarter and 3:1 up with 15 minutes to go. However, it was not going to be that easy. Dragons were quickly out of the blocks in the final quarter. Recognising the tactical change and the need to spread the ball more, the pressure mounted on Norwich. After five minutes a strong reverse stick strike from long distance went narrowly wide but Norwich failed to heed the warning. It was quickly followed by a close-range opportunity which, despite an initial save, was pushed into the side wall of the goal. Queue five minutes of heart stopping action. Norwich successfully relieved most of the remaining pressure, keeping the score at 3:2, until the final minute… An enthralling game dominated by grit and determination from both sides. Apologies for those who spent too long warming the bench on a very cold day, I will redress the balance in future but rest assured this was a true team victory. Thank you to everyone in the team for your commitment and growing team spirit and camaraderie. Additional thanks to Anthony Butterworth for his help on the touchline and the ever-present, increasingly vocal, parent crew! There is still a hope to nourish.

Kate Houldey controlled the centre of the midfield providing great balls out to the sides. Her partnership with Matilda Butterworth produced some fine runs up the right wing from Matilda & perfect crosses into the D to provide scoring opportunities for Abi Flatt & Evie Thorpe to put the ball in the net. Matilda herself scored 3 goals from her speedy running up the wing & fully deserved her player of the match award The defence of Lottie Smith, Maggie Mayo & Sabina Baker hardly let Watton through & Lottie made a couple of strong runs form the back to just narrowly miss scoring herself. When Watton did break through Grace thrower in goal deftly kept them off the score sheet. The midfield of Kate, Frances Underhill & Maddie Smith got stuck in tackling & getting the balls through for the forwards. Frances just missed out on a goal at the end of the first quarter. Millie Wimhurst was great up front on the L side & she & Grace Adams on the right narrowly missed out on goals as well. All in all a fantastic performance from this young team who seem to go from strength to strength Well played everyone !!

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 07/01/2017 VS PELICANS (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 07/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 07/01/2017 HEADLINE: "We should have had a hat full!" LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2:0 REPORT: Fully rested after the Christmas festivities, the team were eager to continue their winning run on home soil. Again, the team were boosted by some willing U12 players and 15 girls were available to face Pelicans in the growing Taverham mist. The first quarter was dominated by Norwich, Kate Houldey commanding midfield and Matilda Butterworth and Niamh Campbell quickly carving out multiple chances from the right wing. These regular forays produced good opportunities for both Abi Flatt and Frances Byrne and successive penalty corners were awarded. Initially carefully rehearsed routines were followed to the letter when perhaps a simple well struck shot would have been more effective, but eventually an opportunity fell to Matilda, who had moved to the near post after injecting the ball, and she slotted home. Norwich continued to dominate in the second quarter but the play lacked the width of the first and opportunities were more difficult to engineer. Meanwhile Pelicans began to forage down their right wing necessitating some sharp defending from Lucy Jenkinson and Sabina Baker. Frances Underhill also grew quickly into her new role in defence looking strong and assured. Ultimately, the quarter ended with no additional score emphasizing a need to spread play in the second half. The team took to the second half with renewed gusto and again attacking opportunities quickly arose due to the play once again being spread to both flanks. Very good work from Maddie Smith and Abi Hill, coupled with the ever-running Kate, made the mid-field almost impenetrable whilst Matilda and Niamh, supported by Evie-Mae Thorpe and Freya Myhill, created chance after chance. As parents and coach alike delighted in the creativity, everyone shared the growing frustration as the ball simply wouldn’t go into the net. Surely it couldn’t last? The pressure continued with more and more players pressing for that deserved goal but this created a risk of a Pelicans breakaway chance. Fortunately, the defence remained resolute with Maggie Mayo and Sabina doing well to stop the Pelicans sporadic long pass attacks leaving Daisy to look mournfully through her helmet at another missed opportunity to touch the ball! At last, to the delight (and relief) of the home fans, Abi Flatt struck an unstoppable shot from close range just as the umpire was drawing breath to blow the final whistle. A well-earned victory for the team, albeit the score line did not reflect the creativity and craft of a team who appeared destined to score into double digits. This was another match where the team excelled, unlike their opponents, without the assistance of an experienced lady player in defence. Maddie and Matilda were deservedly appointed joint players of the game (sorry Maddie, I couldn’t put two names on the summary sheet so flipped a coin!). Kate also continued her excellent role as captain both on and off the field. Thanks to everyone for their committed play. Next, putting out the Dragons fire!

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 10/12/2016 VS YARMOUTH (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 10/12/2016 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 10/12/2016 HEADLINE: The winning run continues... LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Great Yarmouth RESULT: 1 : 2 REPORT: After a week struggling to muster a team, we were fortunate to have Freya; Evie-Mae; and Niahm join the team fresh from the U12s, Freya even managing to cajole her mum, Vicky, to play as the adult defender. Predictably, the first quarter saw the team finding their feet against a larger and more physical Great Yarmouth side. Although easily able to soak up any Great Yarmouth pressure, with Lottie; Vicky and Sabina being strong at the back, there was a lack of fluidity from the Norwich midfield meaning the game was concentrated in the centre of the park and progress was limited. The second quarter saw a significant improvement across the field. Players found themselves in space and attacking opportunities began to be created. Francis; Lucy; Freya; and Maggie communicated well to create a solid midfield presence that dominated possession and enabled some strong, fast attacks on both flanks, particularly from Loulou. One such move led to Lottie’s hard shot, with Evie-Mae deftly tucking in the rebound. Almost from the re-start, Niahm picked up the ball and had a mazy run before finishing with a fabulous reverse strike. A fitting end to a quarter dominated by Norwich. The second half was more evenly balanced, Great Yarmouth relying on two very experienced players at the back to protect their goal. Nonetheless, Norwich retained their shape well and continued to look to move the ball wide before cutting it back to create numerous opportunities. Lottie and Sabina continued to pass strongly with the attacking line showing some excellent possession and movement, ably supported by Lucy; Freya; and the ever-running Frances. Given that there could have been a good number of additional goals for Norwich in the half, particularly from Niahm’s strong runs, it was very frustrating that with their only real shot on target, Great Yarmouth managed to squeeze the ball over the line in the last minute of the game. Overall a very solid performance from all the girls. Given they had never played together, with some of the younger girls having never played on a full-size pitch, it was a fantastic win. Lottie deservedly picked up the player of the game with special thanks to Vicky for playing well and in the spirit of her role as adult player. Now to keep this run going!

Norwich had plenty more chances but failed to convert further attacks although they continued to have the best of the play. In the third quarter Magpies fought back and looked likely to score, but Norwich held them at bay with some strong defending and remarkable tackles and passes from player of the match Maddie Smith. However, as ball after ball headed towards the Dereham keeper, it was only a matter of time before something went in. Eventually, player of the match Millie Wimhurst opened the scoresheet with a deflection goal off the left post towards the end of the first quarter. The goals then started to flow as Norwich worked out how to beat the visitors’ defence. Next came a top of the D slap hit by Amy Barker that powered the ball into the net. Just minutes later there was another decisive finish when Frances Underhill scored by slotting the ball to the left of the keeper’s feet. Tilly Butterworth had a great game in centre midfield and scored the fifth goal by converting a short corner, picking up an attempted clearance from Dereham and sending it into the net. The final goal was scored by Millie Wimhurst again, with intelligent positioning she managed to neatly deflect the ball in on the left post. POM Millie Wilmhurst Match report by Liz Hollis

Norwich continued to work hard to repeatedly penetrate the Dragon’s defensive area throughout the first half but couldn’t quite get an effective touch on any of the many crosses heading into the D. In the second half, the same two players executed an almost carbon copy second goal for Norwich taking them two nil ahead. Norwich continued to work hard with Loulou Ford executing some impressive attacking runs along the right flank. Meanwhile, iIn midfield Kate Houldey, Freya Myhill, Frances Underhill, Abi Hill and Maddie Smith worked hard to cut out any passes through to the Dragon’s attackers. The midfielders moved as a unit, with Maddy Smith making some important interceptions and tackles and Kate Houldey acting as an energetic play-making link to block out passes and repeatedly send the ball back to the Norwich attackers. When the ball broke through to the Norwich attack area, Abi Flatt, Millie Wimhurst and Frances Byrne were in good positions to receive and move the ball neatly around the Dragon’s D and constantly penetrate the visitor’s D zone. Dragons looked dangerous throughout the match, however, and defenders Sabina Baker and Rosie Osborne stayed constantly vigilant to pick off a series of threatening Dragon’s attacks. The visitors appeared to up their game towards the end of the match with a final determined press that saw them burst through the Norwich defence and launch some dangerous one-on-one attacks with keeper Daisy Ford who made a series of impressive saves. But yet another one-on-one with the goalie in the D proved too much for Norwich who conceded a goal with just a few minutes left of play. POM Daisy Ford

The first goal came in the first quarter from attacker Abigail Flatt who eliminated a group of defenders surrounding her in the D and found enough space to hit the ball hard past the keeper. Norwich continued to have the best of the play in the second quarter and increased their score sheet with a second goal from Sabina Baker, who netted a cross. After the half-time break, it appeared likely that Norwich would overwhelm Pelicans and add to their tally. However, Pelicans recognised this and firmed up their defence by bringing on two adult players at the back. The changes had the desired effect and Norwich were unable to add to their scoresheet throughout the rest of the game despite coming close on several occasions and remaining in the ascendancy in general play. Pelicans tried hard and rotated their substitutes well, an option not open to the Norwich team. However, most of their attacks foundered on the rock-like presence of Lottie Smith at the back who made some important interceptions and tackles. This was a day when the Norwich team won in convincing fashion. Every player contributed to a fantastic team performance. Player of the Match: Lottie Smith.

LADIES DEVELOPMENT XI - 08/10/2016 VS YARMOUTH (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: NORWICH CITY 4 YARMOUTH 0 REPORT: Norwich started strongly with Yarmouth rarely invading the home D or threatening keeper Daisy Ford . The hard work and neat passing soon paid off when Norwich’s right forward Frances Byrne opened the scoring in the first quarter when she calmly slotted the ball past Yarmouth’s keeper. The Norwich girls continued to dominate in the second quarter and Frances Byrne scored again for the home team. A few minutes later Norwich scored a third goal when Abigail Flatt converted a short corner. After the half-time break Abigail scored again, netting a powerful slap hit sent into the D from the right by Lucy Jenkinson. Freya Myhill, Imi Shaw and Millie Wimhurst made some attacks down the left in this quarter but the Yarmouth defenders stopped them from finding the net. In the fourth quarter Norwich continued to play some great hockey, switching the ball back and round through pivot players Kate Houldey and adult helper Fongy and attacking down the right baseline by Lucy Jenkinson and Abigail Hill. However, a plucky and enthusiast Yarmouth team, still finding their feet with lots of young and brand-new-to-hockey players, worked hard to keep the home team from increasing their score past four goals. Player of the match: Kate Houldey
