W (4-3) 17/04/2021 - LD vs Greshams U14 (A / F) SUNNY AFTERNOON IN HOLT |
---|
WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 17/04/2021 VS GRESHAMS U14 (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 17/04/2021 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 17/04/2021 HEADLINE: Sunny afternoon in Holt LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Gresham's school RESULT:WIN 4:3 REPORT: It was a lovely sunny afternoon at Gresham's so not the usual hockey weather the girls are used to! The game was highly competitive from the start especially as we had NCHC sisters playing against each other -Evie Hood captaining Greshams & Lottie Hood playing for NCHC. Greshams started strongly charging up the R wing & finishing with a foul from City in the D resulting in a penalty shuffle which was new to the girls & also new to most of us spectating. This involves one player taking the ball from 5m dash line & they have 7 seconds run to the goal & score past the GK. Greshams managed this with ease & the score was 1:0 to Greshams. Not to be outdone City reciprocated almost immediately winning a penalty shuffle at the other end which India Fox finished strongly in the back of the net. There was a lot of tussling in mid-field between the 2 teams & Evie Brockington stood strong in centre mid with great play between her & Millie Power & City pressed hard. However, Greshams had a few breaks & managed another goal & were also awarded another penalty shuffle which they managed to slide in. Just before half-time Chloe Holmes pulled one back for City with a superbly executed penalty shuffle. Half time score 3-2 to Greshams We then all observe a minutes silence for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at 3pm. Both teams stood respectfully in the centre of the pitch. Both teams came out very determined in the second half & there was some great play & passing by both teams. Greshams were awarded another penalty shuffle quite early on which was superbly saved by City GK Jess Westbury & this was a real turning point in the game. City played some lovely hockey moving the ball from side to side & involving all the players on the pitch. City defence stood strong with Niamh Rushton & Emily Morton clearing anything Greshams threw at them. The hard work paid off when City were awarded another penalty shuffle which Millie Power expertly dribbled past the Gresham’s GK & popped in the net. With the score even, both teams upped their game & with some exciting end to end play, it finally went city’s way with a scrabble around the goal resulting in Mirabelle Harden slotting one away for City. Final Score 4-3 to City POTM Poppy Scott Well done too both teams who played some lovely hockey in the finest spirit of the game which was very much enjoyed by all of us watching from the side on a sunny afternoon in Holt. Thanks as always to Ali Wardale for coaching & managing the team

Both Millie Power (player of the match) and India Fox scored hat-tricks, including an impressive reverse stick shot from Millie. In the final quarter, City really started to gel again as a team with Hollie Blackham finishing off a superb move involving many players and the ball switching from one side of the pitch to the other. Finally, Niamh Rushton was delighted to score their 10th goal from a penalty corner in the 60th minute of the game.

W (4-0) 05/12/2020 - LD vs Dereham (A / L) A CHILLY EVENING BUT A GREAT RESULT |
---|
WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 05/12/2020 VS DEREHAM (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 05/12/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 05/12/2020 HEADLINE: A chilly evening but a great result LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dereham RESULT:4:0 REPORT: It was a rather depleted side facing Dereham today as unfortunately Covid had struck in the last few hours & isolated a whole cohort of girls from the same school! We are hoping they will all be back very soon. Still, unperturbed & raring to go, 10 girls & our adult Anna Horsley( drafted in at very short notice- many thanks ) were keen to end the run of postponed matches due to lockdown & get out there & play. City started strongly in the first quarter with some fantastic runs down the R wing from Lottie Hood & Susannah Hamilton backed up by Amelie Horsley. There was lovely movement of the ball & great crosses from Lottie Hood into the D but the City girls couldn't quite find the finish they needed. However this all changed in the 2nd quarter with some fantastic passing between captain Evie Brockington & POTM Hollie Blackham which finally resulted in a cross from Evie that was smashed in by Hollie . This was shortly followed by some great passing in the middle of the field which eventually found Lottie Hood on the R who did a perfect cross into the D which was knocked in by Katie Smith. City then had a run of short corners & one of these saw a great injection by Amelie Horsley to Evie Brockington who crossed it to Hollie Blackham who struck it hard at the goal for number 3. The play then moved to the other end of the pitch & Dereham tested City's defence but Isabelle Lloyd & Ellice Chen ( in her debut match) held fast & strong & quickly shut down the threat. A couple of Dereham attacks did make it as far as the D but Jess Westbury in goal did some great saves to keep a clean sheet up to half time. The 3rd quarter saw City making some excellent moves & really gelling as a team. There was some lovely play between Olivia Kazimierczak & Evie Brockington & this resulted in a fantastic strike on goal by Evie which made number 4. The 4th quarter was uneventful in the fact there were no goals but again saw the girls deftly moving the ball around, using both wings & also passing the ball back & changing direction when in trouble. Well played everyone! Well done Hollie Blackham for her very well deserved POTM but also a mention to Evie Brockington who also had a large proportion of the votes.

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 31/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Friendly against Dragons LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:3:0 REPORT: The Girls development team played a strong Dragons team this week. The girls started solidly & well with a lot of play on the ball but their attempts seemed thwarted by the 2 adults in defence. Dragons GK also made a few good saves. Finally just before the end of the first quarter their persistence paid off with a great strike into the D from Grace Hanworth-Knights which was converted in from the post. The girls battled on with some great runs up the centre from Grace Hanworth-Knights supported well by Chloe Holmes & India Fox. There was some great movement of the ball in midfield by Evie Brockington in the centre. However the Dragons defence held strong. There were a few quick attacks by Dragons but defenders Emily Morton & Niamh Rushton were superb at intercepting these & firing the ball back up into City's half. Eventually Grace Hanworth-Knights broke through the defenders to score 2 more goals & earn a very well-deserved POTM from her team. Well done Grace. The girls are obviously sad this may be their last game as a team for a while but we are sure they will be raring to go in a months time !

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 24/10/2020 VS EAST COAST (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 24/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 24/10/2020 HEADLINE: No stopping City Girls as they storm to another win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:East Point Academy RESULT: 8-0 win REPORT: Despite being down to just 11 players rather than their usual squad of 16, Norwich city girls started the match against East Coast girls in a positive manner. The first goal came within a few minutes when Katie Smith slotted in a powerfully driven cross from Grace Hanworth-Knights, following one of Grace’s skilful runs through several opposition players. Evie Brockington took a free hit quickly and dribbled towards the circle before picking out Grace Hanworth-Knights who hit an impressive reverse stick shot to score City’s 2nd goal. Isabelle Lloyd grew in confidence down the right wing and was involved in some great passing moves especially with City’s Player of the Match, Amelie Horsley. Amelie, still an under 12, showed great positioning in defence, stopping every attack and picking up any loose ball. Millie Power scored City’s 3rd goal, assisted by Grace who was also instrumental in setting Katie Smith up to score the next 2 goals. A hat-trick for Katie! City up by 5-0 at half-time. Olivia Kazimierczak scored City’s first goal after half-time showing good strength on the ball. Niamh Rushton, playing further forward in the second half, made some excellent attacks and Emily Morton was unlucky not to score. Grace Hanworth-Knights added to her tally with another reverse stick shot and Niamh Rushton finished off a lovely move involving many players in the circle. Thank you to Anna Horsley for stepping in to help the defence out for the first half. And thanks as always to Jessica Westbury in goal. Not much action for Jessica again - despite the team trying to involve her with a pass back to her...the less said about that part of the game the better!!!

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 10/10/2020 VS WATTON (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Good solid win for Development girls LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT:3:1 WIN REPORT: Another rather rainy match first thing in the morning didn't dampen the girl's spirits though. They started off the 1st quarter with some fast play down the left side of the pitch from Millie & Alice Brown. India Fox passed a great ball to Alice Brown who was unlucky to just put the ball to the side of the left post. The play continued fast & furious with some superb passing of the ball between Mirabelle Harden & Evie Brockington in the centre. The girls were denied a goal until they won a short which Evie Brockington injected & a powerful stroke by Millie Power was deflected in by India Fox just before the end of the first quarter The 2nd quarter started with a great run up the right wing by Lottie Hood who injected the ball into the D picking up another short corner which wasn't successful this time but the girls kept the pressure on & the second goal came after a fabulous team effort starting with Amelie Horsley on the wing & involving most of the forwards passing quickly amongst themselves & finished superbly by POTM Millie Power who was consistently battling away for the ball on the left. The 3rd quarter saw the girls concede a short corner in the first 30 seconds which was successfully converted by Watton. The NCHC girls kept fighting though with some great play moving the ball around in midfield by Hollie Blackham. Hollie was unlucky not to score from 2 powerful shots on goal which were saved by the Watton goalie. The third goal came from the side of the D skilfully executed by India Fox. The 4th quarter saw no more goals but some sterling work in defence from Emily Morten who battled away against the oppositions wingers. There was some great defending from Poppy Scott on the left side & Jessica Westbury in goal had to save a couple of Watton shots towards the end. Overall a great team performance- well done girls & thank you as ever to Ali Wardale for great encouragement from the side.

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 26/09/2020 VS DEREHAM (H) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Stormy conditions but a great start to the league for the Girls development team. LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:WON 6:0 REPORT: The girl's development team were sheltering near the club house at 8.45am this morning as the rain came down around them but the 16 strong squad took to the pitch in the inclement conditions & didn't look back. They went out fighting against the Dereham girls who looked strong & were unlucky not to get a goal early on. City had quite a few strikes on goal thwarted by their agile goal keeper but eventually the first goal came from Hollie Blackham, also POTM, who was very strong on the right side throughout the match. Just before half-time Katie Smith knocked one in from the left post taking City 2:0 up at half-time. In the second-half City continued their attack led by Grace Hanworth-Knights who made run after run through the middle of the Dereham defence & scored 3 further goals to complete her second hat-trick of this season. She was well-supported by great balls from Evie Brockington & India Fox. City's defence was consistently strong with Niamh Rushton & Isabelle Brandford scooping up any loose balls & Jessica Westbury in goal maintained a clean sheet & was still smiling at the end despite the wind & the rain & being rather cold! A great debut from some of the U12's who have come up this season, Millie & Alice Brown & Susannah Hamilton. This was a great start to the league for the girls who were all keen & all battled on to the end despite all being drenched & freezing. They were very grateful to the TRF staff who provided some hot takeaway bacon rolls & hot dogs after the match

W (7-0) 19/09/2020 - LD vs Harleston Magpies (A / F) FRUITFUL FIRST OUTING FOR THIS SEASONS DEVS |
---|
WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 19/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Fruitful first outing for this seasons Devs VENUE: SHOTFORD HEATH RESULT: MAGPIES GIRLS DEVS 0 CITY GIRLS DEVS 7 REPORT: As is often the case with the Devs with new players moving up from the Under 12's it is difficult to know how the team will perform on their first outing. City fielded six girls who were making their debuts for the Devs, but with five of last years regulars City had experience and ability to call upon. India Fox slotted nicely into the role of centre-half but City's real power came from inside right Grace Hanworth-Knights. Magpies were unable to cope with her power and surging runs from midfield. City were three up at the end of the first quarter Grace Hanworth-Knight converting the second phase of a short corner. Evie Brockington added a second a trademark far post tap in at a short corner and Grace Hanworth-Knight converting the third with a thunderbolt from the left edge of the circle. The second quarter saw City add a further three goals as Grace added to more to her tally and Millie Power who worked hard in midfield adding the other. After the break City moved players around and it was good to see many perform well away from their usual positions especially Evie Brockington at centre half, Hollie Blackham at right back, Emily Morton at inside left and Niamh Rushton at right wing. Despite some good passages of play leading up to the circle City were only able to add one further goal in the second half when Grace added her fifth of the match with a solo effort from inside her own half. Player of the match went to Lottie Hood who showed great composure on the ball along with good distribution.
