LADIES 5TH XI - 01/04/2017 VS BRECKLAND (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 01/04/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 01/04/2017 HEADLINE: "These Girls Can" LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: 3-1 WIN REPORT: Great end to the season a 3-1 win against Breckland away at Watton. The team commenced the game a bit too relaxed knowing that they had already won the league and gained there well earned promotion. So relaxed that at one point Summer was caught practicing her yoga in the goal mouth to stretch out her creaky back. Norwich put great pressure on the Breckland defence but just couldn't find the goal! Breckland had a one off break away and scored. Half time 1-0 to Breckland. A stern half time talk by the captain and experienced player Bev Cushion got the team into second gear, the corners started flowing and Fiona Spencer scored a straight strike. Carolyn lumley joined the score sheet making it 2-1. Relief swept over the team as another corner slipped left to Bev Cushion and then finally edged in by Charlotte Gundry found the goal. City held onto their 3-1 win finally playing some decent hockey looking like the team we all know. This team so deserve their promotion, what a great season 56 points in the bag only two losses and one draw. The whole squad should be so proud of their achievements. Go for it womens 5's in division one!!

LADIES 5TH XI - 04/03/2017 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 04/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 04/03/2017 HEADLINE: Back to their winning ways LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston RESULT: 4-1 REPORT: Norwich went out all guns blazing. The first 10 minutes saw Norwich press hard & it wasn't long before they were awarded a short. Ali stepped up to the mark & just like last week fired the ball straight into the back of the net. Ellie again had some great runs down the line. The next goal scored by Kitty came from a strong run from a Ellie weaving passed several players leaving a one on one with the goalie, instead of trying to score she played a great pass across the goal to Kitty making the first half end 2-0. Second half Norwich stayed strong. Harleston had a break & unfortunately Ali tried to show her football skills just inside the D which gave away a short corner. Norwich thought they would try a new tactic which left the right goal post open allowing Harleston to score. This didn't deter Norwich & again a great run from Ellie saw her score closely followed by another by Kitty from a deflection of a Harleston defender. Final score 4-1. Well done everyone, great team work. Player of the match Ellie Hobden

D (1-1) 25/02/2017 - W5 vs Evergreens 2 (H / L) FIGHTING TILL THE END! |
---|
LADIES 5TH XI - 25/02/2017 VS EVERGREENS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 25/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 25/02/2017 HEADLINE: Fighting till the end! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-1 REPORT:Firstly, welcome back to Karen. This was her first match in 12 week after a nasty finger injury but as expected she played as though she hadn't even been away! Also, thank you to Fran and Jane from the 6s who both worked tirelessly and fitted right in. With a few players in new positions this week it took City a while to settle into the game and find their feet. During the first half City had the majority of the possession and were unlucky not to convert one of their many short corners. Credit goes to the Evergreens keeper who made numerous saves which kept her team in the game. Disappointingly for City there was no score at half time. After the break City frustrated the opposition and put a lot of pressure on one of their key players by marking her out of the game. Everything seemed to be going in City’s favour until a break from Evergreens down the right resulted in their pass across D being converted. 1 – 0 to Evergreens. City continued to pile on the pressure for the remaining 20 minutes but nothing seemed to be working. Evergreens were happy to see the time tick by and with one minute remaining it seemed like it might all be over. However, with the last play in normal time City managed to win a short corner – this was their chance! The pressure was immense and all the City players were surrounding the D. The strike at the keeper was again saved and a defender cleared the ball. It looked like it was all over – there were even handshakes between players! – but the clearance was raised and another short corner was awarded. Again City lined up. Kitty injected, Ali received the ball and with a straight strike from the top of the D she put it right through the keeper’s legs! City celebrated! Maybe slightly too much for a 1-1 draw … A good but very stressful game!

LADIES 5TH XI - 11/02/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 6 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 11/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 11/02/2017 HEADLINE: Still top but not our best day for finishing! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: 1-2 REPORT: City were keen to put in another good performance today and started strongly, winning several short corners. Dragons, however were very strong, their goalie deserves particular mention saving shot after shot. Their defense too was really good and we found it hard to get through at times. Against the run of play Dragons went ahead - a warning to CIty that they were dangerous on the break. City retained their composure and equalized with a great goal from Amelia Barclay, a great finish at an acute angle - a culmination to a team move which started at the back with a great ball through form Charlotte Baxter. Dragons scored a second goal, and city this time were unable to equalize, despite having much of the play. A hard fought match, but it just wasn't to be for us today. Well done though girls, all good experience. The good news is that we remain top of the league. MOM: Bev Cushion

Both teams started off fighting but the first half saw Norwich wanting it more. Shear determination & grit saw Carolyn fight past North Norfolk defenders in the D sneaking the ball past the goalie & scoring. At half time the score was still 1-0, the weather started to change to but Norwich's game was still on the ball. Most of the second half was played in North Norfolks defending half. There was some great play down the right wing from Ellie, her speed was no match for the other team. She had some great passes into the D but Norwich just couldn't convert. Final score 1-0, player of the match Ellie Hobden. Many thanks to Sharon & Carolyn from the 6's who helped us out.

Railway started off the mark quickly to sccore a goal but City soon came back and scored 3 goals in fairly quick succession. City played well off the break with Charlotte making some fast runs and out foxing the opposition. But the Railway did not give up fighting and were relentless in their effort to hit goal. They soon equalised with the defense having to work very hard to keep them at bay. At half time the score was 3-3 and the second half was end to end hockey. Well done to both teams.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: The womens 5's produced another fantastic win this week, although it nearly wasn't to be - Fiona thought she was following Maz in the car on the way to Lynn, (but it wasn't Maz's car she was behind, and Fiona was heading to Sleaford!). Luckily she got back on track and helped lead the team to another very convincing win: 20-0. This was a great team performance, with everyone playing a crucial part, but special thanks should go to Josine, Carey and Liz and to Sophia's Mum for enabling Sophia and Amelia to play for us then whisking them off for their school match! We also welcomed Rosie this week, a new player for the 5's who had a strong game. We definitely look forward to embracing her skilful play in future weeks. Roll on next week's game, a toughie against our 6's.! Man of match this week: Bev Cushion.

With 7 regular players either unavailable or being pulled to support the higher teams the 5's knew it would be tough. Within the first 10 minutes City had conceded a goal (only the 2nd of the season) with a great own goal from Karen Hobden from a short corner, who then suffered a freak injury. While she was being transported to A&E it seemed City lost all structure and were quickly down 3-0. Half time couldn't come too soon. A rousing team talk at half time from 'Captain for the day' Bev seemed to lift City who started the 2nd half much better. However it wasn't to be and despite an improved performance in the 2nd half, the womens 5's suffered their first defeat of the season 4-0!! Unfortunately the highlight of the game didn't happen on the pitch but was a competition between the supporters stealing tea and the umpires 'girls love hockey' hoodie. Luckily the 5's have done enough in previous weeks to remain top of the league and look forward to next week, hopefully with a strengthened team. Thanks to Catherine and the 6's for helping us out today!!
