LADIES 4TH XI - 25/03/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 25/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 25/03/2017 HEADLINE: A Fitting End ....... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:2-0 Win REPORT: The Womens 4’s season has gone from strength to strength and they were very determined to get a result in this final league game against a well drilled, strong Dragon’s 3’s side. With high intensity from the off the Womens 4’s took the game to Dragon’s, out pacing and out playing this experienced side. It is true to say that everybody upped their game and played some of their best hockey. Maddie Anthony opened the scoring for the 4’s from a well struck short corner strike and the score line remained at 1-0 leading into the break. The second half saw more of the same and the movement from defence through midfield to the forward line was slick, well worked and put the Dragon’s defence under extreme pressure. Their Goal Keeper on one such occasion collided with Amelia Barclay, preventing her from scoring but to Amelia’s credit and showing great maturity, got up dusted herself down and when the next opportunity arose with an easily intercepted back pass from the Dragon’s defender, Amelia with a one on one slotted the ball home to increase the 4’s score line. A fitting end to our first season in the Norfolk Premiership, finishing 5th. It is also fitting to mention that we are the highest 4th Womens Club team in Norfolk – WOW. Many thanks for all the side line support too.

W (5-2) 25/02/2017 - W4 vs Loddon 1 (H / L) LADIES 4TH XI SECURE ANOTHER GREAT WIN! |

LADIES 4TH XI - 25/02/2017 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 25/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 25/02/2017 HEADLINE: Womens 4th XI secure another great win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:5-2 (win) REPORT: A fantastic team effort from the womens 4’s today. Pressure was applied from the off and the team took advantage of running leads and playing the ball into space. The first goal came from some great attacking play by Rachael and Sophia. Running the ball down the wing, Rachael crossed to Sophia who kept composed and hit a great reverse shot into the back of the net. Not long after the second goal came with a cross into the D from Sophia which allowed Holly to deflect it into the goal. Rachael and Sophia proved a superb attacking team as they ensured City’s 3rd goal. Rachael spotted Sophia in space at the top of the D. Composed once again, Sophia fired the ball home. 3-0 to the 4’s at half time! At the start of the 2nd half Loddon womens applied some pressure of their own. True to form, their counter attack saw them steal a goal. An unfortunate goal as City’s defence had worked tirelessly throughout the first half to keep the team on the attacking foot. With Ellyn commanding from the centre, City went on the hunt for goals once more. Great wide play saw Cheryl threading balls through to the inners and Sue holding off any attempts from the oppositions mids. A short corner gave the 4’s their 4th goal. The reliable Emily Spencer stepped up to smash the ball home. A powerful and accurate shot as always. Emotions ran high as the game pushed on. Both teams were hungry for more goals as the tackles came in hard and fast! Loddon managed to find a second goal despite city's defence putting up a great fight in the D and unlucky for Edie who had been superb all game. City were not disheartened and went on the attack once more. Fantastic play into space saw the ball threaded through to Rachael, who expertly chipped the ball over the goalies head and into the roof of the goal! An enjoyable game for the 4’s that sees them secure their position mid table. Some lessons learnt too; a defensive mindset must be employed when the ball is lost. However, lots of positives to take forward into next weeks game at the Dragons den. Match Report kindly provided by well deserved POTM, Holly Robinson.

LADIES 4TH XI - 18/02/2017 VS NORWICH CITY 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 18/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 18/02/2017 HEADLINE: NCHC Womens 4's give NCHC Womens 3's a good run for their money ...... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:1-2 REPORT: On Saturday 18th February, the L4 came up against L3 once again. Despite being the underdogs, L4 started the game off with high intensity, dominating most of the play, creating several goal-scoring opportunities leading to lots of short corners. However with many chances on goal we were unfortunate to get the ball across the goal line. With mother and daughter teamwork from Fiona and Emily Spencer, and Maddie Anthony the defence was very strong and they made it difficult for the L3 to get past. Ellyn Roberts played very well, securely holding the CM position, to mark star player Rachael Cave out of the game. Unfortunately, Olivia Greenway and Rachael Cave both scored a goal each leaving the L3 2-0 ahead at half time. With our heads held up high and an encouraging team talk from Simeon Tomlinson and Cheryl Brown, we gave our all into the 2nd half. We were determined to score against our rivals. As we train with the L3 each week, we soon started to play the ball around them creating some lovely chances and had more of the play, putting the L3 under pressure. Summer Haylock was a nuisance in goal, saving our shots, which made it hard to get the ball past her. However, striving for a goal, L4 kept their focus and with a crucial run from Sophia Basset who eliminated several players, passed to Rachael Phillips who was positioned on the top of the D. A direct shot into the far right corner from Rachael added to the score of 2-1. With increased positivity, the L4 tried to convert another goal for an equaliser. The hard-fought match ended 2-1, but all our efforts paid off as we kept fighting and we were beginning to turn the game around. The game was much closer and exciting than the last match when we came up against each other, well played everyone. Match Report kindly provided by well deserved POTM, Rachael Phillips.

LADIES 4TH XI - 04/02/2017 VS CARROW 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: Against all the odds ..... LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:4-0 (win) REPORT: Norwich City Womens 4s had the home advantage on this bright Saturday afternoon. However they were missing a good number of their regular squad members and knew that it wouldn't necessarily be an easy match against the team at the bottom of the league. This was evident during the first half. Although City had the majority of the ball and spent much of the first 35 minutes in the opposition's half, Carrow had some skilful players and made a couple of good breaks. City's back line remained strong and dealt with any threats well, making good use of the width to push the ball back up past the half way line. Frustratingly for City, the half ended nil-nil. With the sun now behind them City started the second half much brighter. It wasn't long before Emily Spencer's strike from the top of the D hit the back board and soon after Hannah Bush made it 2-0. City continued to dominate the game; Eliza Barclay made a fantastic break half way up the right of the pitch which she followed up with a perfectly timed pass across goal to Holly Robinson who was able to tap it in for City's third. City continued to pile on the pressure and they were unlucky not to convert a few more chances. Finally, after a rebounded strike from the top of the D, Livvy Broadway found herself with the ball at a very tight angle to the left of the goal. However, she kept her cool and managed to squeeze it past the keeper to leave the final score 4-0. A well-deserved win for Norwich City.

City started slowly and took a while to wake up. Evergreens piled on some early pressure. However some great defending and goalkeeping meant no early lead was taken. Against the run of play City had a fantastic quick break leading to a goal by Anna Horsley. The second half started again with City under pressure. Evergreens were getting frustrated as they could not score even though they had numerous short corners. Again City took there chance and scored there second goal at a straight strike at goal from a penalty corner by Maddie Anthony. Norwich City held tight to the result and played the end of the second half with calm heads holding on well to there 2-0 lead. Well played Eadie in goal and overall another great team performance for Norwich City 4th team. Well done Emily Spencer for player of the match.

LADIES 4TH XI - 21/01/2017 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 21/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 21/01/2017 HEADLINE: Outstanding Team Performance ensures Victory for the Womens 4's LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:3-2 REPORT: City 4’s brief was to get the result they deserved this week, hosting Dereham Womens 3’s their previous encounter ending in a draw. We were also aware that Dereham were fielding a player of outstanding ability, returning from injury and had drawn to top of the table Broadland 1’s in their previous fixture. From the off, we took the game to them, the forward line looking very impressive, outpacing the opposition and it wasn’t long before debutante Sophia Basset took the ball wide of the goal, turned and netted the ball from what appeared an impossible angle. This did nothing to settle the nerves of the opposition, who were struggling with their composure to which we took full advantage. Holly Robinson then came close to scoring from some wonderful passing into the ‘D’, which was cleared by the Keeper into the path of Amelia Ellis-Baumber who with quick thinking, lifted the ball with force into the back of the net, kindly missing Holly who seemed to be wisely lying in aeroplane recovery mode. Dereham to their credit then fought back after some strong words from their Coach, Edie Mason coming to the rescue with a stand out save, strong on her feet and tipping the ball over the bar thwarting the efforts of the opposition. City 4’s were awarded a short corner, this unfortunately sailed passed the intended recipient and Dereham on the counter attack, took full advantage smashing the ball at height into the net, an unstoppable goal. Undeterred City scored another corker through another debutante and well deserved POTM Amelia Barclay, 3-1 leading into half time. The second half saw a very determined Dereham squad, who had clearly changed tactics and came back into the game. It was end to end and special mention to Edie Mason, Kim Lusher, Lydia Ellis-Baumber and Emily Spencer who worked tirelessly clearing advances but Dereham took advantage in an opportune moment and scored a smash and grab goal. Nail biting finish when the visitors looked to have scored just before the final whistle but were denied when it had come off a player’s body – phew! An outstanding all round team performance and hard fought result – well done Womens, you should all be very proud!

The opening ten minutes saw some strong passing by the 4s and good phases of play, but it was against an opposition that quickly settled into their own game. The 2s put away five goals in the first half, helped by a couple of unfortunate deflections by full back Kim Lusher, who for the rest of her defensive performance earned player of the match. The second half saw four more goals by the 2s, including lovely finishes by Milly Brown and Kate Hartland. Although the 4s never gave up and made some good runs via the likes of Hannah Bush and Grace Kidner, the 2s were undoubtedly too strong and deservedly took the win. The first goal came from a short corner and was scored by Heather Tasker neatly slotting in on the post. Heather then scored a second goal shortly after. Two more goals were then scored in the first half, one by Holly Robinson who with great composure scored in a one on one situation between her and the GK which was put into the net and one by Amelia Ellis-Baumber. We finished the first half 4-0. Magpies came out fighting in the second half and were soon to score from a short corner. However, we did not let this change our game and continued to work hard. Amelia scored again after some short passes between her and Holly which enabled her to slot it into the corner of the goal. With not long left we continued to apply pressure on the Magpies defence and passed well around the back. Everyone worked tirelessly and should be congratulated on this excellent result and it is a great end to the first half of the season. Match Report kindly provided by our well deserved POTM Amelia Ellis-Baumber.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dragons Den RESULT:0-6 (Loss) REPORT: Match preparation was somewhat thwarted this week when as many will know, however early and prepared that you may be parking at the Dragon’s Den is a complete no no. You can circle that car park endlessly but no one ever reappears to claim their car, so you have no alternative but to park elsewhere! Not ever so convenient when you are the GK and lugging your kit for all it’s worth but Edie negotiated the busy roads with fortitude and duly arrived with the rest of the team who had also encountered the same parking nightmare. A quick team brief and warm up ensued and it was at this stage that Mrs T went walk about looking for parking solutions in the swimming pool area, no Sue, that elusive parking space just doesn’t exist! We entered the pitch with our compliment of 12 player’s and noted with delight that the Dragon’s 3’s team had clearly not had the same availability issues and had selected 14 of their strongest players, many of whom had most likely played at a much higher level. Self believe and team spirit were words banded about before the whistle and once blown they gave it to us in spades. In somewhat of a blur, 3 goals were scored and alas Ellyn Roberts took a nasty injury to her hand and took no further part in the game. Heather Tasker slotted into left midfield, like a pro and thoroughly deserved POTM this week. The fourth goal was hotly contested by Edie Mason when the Dragon’s player backed into her with force and the Dragon’s umpire, firstly gave the goal, then after consulting with the other Dragon’s umpire gave a 16, but then again reversed his decision to award Dragon’s the goal …. Confused? We certainly were but we knew it clearly wasn’t going to be our day! 4-0 down at half time and a strong motivational talk was needed. We came out of the blocks and produced some great passages of play and should be very proud of our performance. The one advantage of playing in this fixture was the amount of short corners that we unfortunately needed to defend, great practice and blimey towards the end we were very good. On one such encounter, Kim Lusher decided to remove her pearl earrings before wearing her face mask ….a great delaying technique and just ever so annoyed that I hadn’t thought of that one myself! To sum up - we certainly did believe and our team spirit is the best. Great character building for all the youngsters playing today and it must be noted that 7 out of the 12 players then went on to play in further fixtures after.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:5-0 (Loss) REPORT: This week we played top of the league Broadland 1s. In the first half we played well, applying pressure and preventing Broadland from scoring in the first 25 minutes. It was not until the end of the first half after they had been awarded two short corners that they managed to score, with the score being 2-0 at half time. The whole team continued to play their best throughout the rest of the game and everyone constantly came back to defend. Unfortunately the score line did not reflect how we played, however everyone should be happy with their performance as we continue to improve week on week. LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:3-0 REPORT: On a very wet day City 4's were ready to face the Dragons 4s, who were currently bottom of the table. The match started well after a good pre-match team talk and we managed to keep possession, continuing to put pressure on Dragons. This pressure soon resulted in a short corner, which after a rebound from their keeper resulted in Amelia Ellis-Baumber scoring the first goal. At half time the score remained at 1-0. During the second half we continued to work well as a team putting passes together, using the space and finally resulting in a well worked goal from Holly Robinson. Soon after debutante Charlotte Grundy scored a third goal and ensured we did not have a nervous last 10 minutes. The whole team should be pleased with their performance, as everyone continued at a high intensity throughout, despite the poor weather conditions. The final score was 3-0, a great win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Hobart High School RESULT:2-2 (Draw) REPORT: The Womens 4’s travelled to Loddon, for an early morning fixture with four of their regular player’s unavailable. Luckily for the 4’s mother and daughter duo, Fiona & Emily Spencer, Flo Duffield and Sophie Harrad kindly stepped into their shoes. Having played this team in our pre-season preparation and winning we knew we had it all to play for. The game ebbed and flowed initially and then Loddon began to apply the pressure but good defending from City 4’s ensured any advances were denied. City took the lead with a well worked goal, involving great input from Heather Tasker and Holly Robinson in the ‘D’ finding Rachael Phillips who slotted the ball neatly home to give the visitors the lead. Loddon undeterred equalised leaving the score line even going into the break. Although there were many passages of great play and distribution for City in the second half, a back pass easily intercepted by Loddon gave them too easy a chance to find the back of the net once more and take the lead. City finding themselves on the back foot now had it all to play for and Holly Robinson, always up for the challenge, didn’t disappoint and in her usual emphatic style scored to deny Loddon the win. Although City 4’s were disappointed to not come away with a win, an away point was a fair result. We look forward to entertaining bottom of the table Dragon’s 4’s next week. Grateful thanks to Chris Wardale for his support at half time. POTM, once again, to a well deserved, Rachael Phillips.

Welcoming back Flo Duffield and the ever versatile Olivia Broadway, the game commenced and we were quietly confident that we would follow our brief and come out on top. The first half did not go quite according to plan and the 4’s conceded a sloppy goal which set the tone for the remainder of the first half. It was a relief to hear the half time whistle where a change of tack was clearly needed. In a tactical move, the formation was changed and the improvement was immediate. It was wonderful to watch the game unfold ‘our way’ with great passages of play and possession, directed by Kim Lusher and Lydia Ellis-Baumber in defence meant Edie Mason didn’t touch the ball once in the second half. Great passing from Rachael Phillips working her magic at the top of the ‘D’ found Flo Duffield who opened the scoring for the 4’s. We were now on a level playing field and rearing to go, pressing and applying the pressure. Penalty Corner opportunities went amiss and Carrow Womens were camping out in their half, making that final penetration difficult but a great diagonal pass from Ellyn Roberts in central midfield found Rachael unmarked and with several deft manoeuvres, she found Flo who slotted the ball neatly home to give the visitors their well earned lead. The Womens 4’s have learnt the hard way in previous encounters this season and needed to kill the game off to secure their 3 points. This was duly adhered to and secured the Womens 4’s their victory. A great all round team effort. POTM to a well deserved Rachael Phillips.

Following an inspiring team talk and huddle, there was one thing City’s minds – victory. We started off well with some great inter-linking play and threatened the Evergreens goal a couple of times in the opening minutes. However, we then got caught out a number of times from an occasional counter-attack. Our defence was strong enough and fought them off, matching the relentless physical strength of the opposition. Sadly, a powerful strike from just inside the D meant that City were on the back foot. We came back in the second half fighting with great passages of play. We became stronger as a team and matched the Evergreen aggression. After playing some great hockey, we really put the pressure on Evergreens, and eventually forced them into two green cards for reckless tackles. With time running out, we were determined to equalize. We got several short corners but struggled to convert them into goals. Luckily, Olivia Broadway managed to fire the ball into the backboard after a recycled short. City were unlucky not to get a win, but they should be proud of the amazing team effort that went into the match. Ellyn Roberts - POTM

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 2-2 (Draw) REPORT: Norwich Womens 4's travelled to Dereham with 12 girls raring to go, and another three en route from a school fixture. From first push back, City dominated possession and moved the ball around the field with some lovely passages of play. City played their own game throughout, working as a team and not giving away many opportunities. But when they did get one, Dereham took the chance to convert a quick fired shot before half time. A good team talk got City fired up, with great contributions from Coach and Player's alike. Holly Robinson then opened the scoring for City with a good ball in levelling the score line. Jess Doncaster then found the back of the net with an amazing slip shot executed from a well rehearsed short corner routine from Sue Tomlinson but alas this was deemed too high and not allowed. Rachael Phillips, who skilfully out played the opposition then placed the ball in the net with an amazing solo effort increased the score line further for City. With five minutes left to play, Norwich continued to defend tightly and as a pack, but Dereham snuck in a late lucky goal, which tied the match 2-2. Norwich were disappointed not to gain three points, but an all-round strong team performance puts them in good stead for their next encounter. Match Report kindly prepared by Kim Lusher, POTM.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Shotford Heath RESULT:2-2 (draw) REPORT: Newly promoted Womens 4’s, had the daunting challenge of travelling to Magpies for their first league game of the season in the Norfolk Premier Division. Magpies 4’s fielded a very young team of gifted players but the Womens 4’s undeterred had experience on their side together with some equally talented players. The game began with Sue T’s words of wisdom ringing in our ears, we were to “take the game to them”. The Womens 4’s certainly had the upper hand from the off, some superb passing from midfield to the forward line kept the Magpies defence on their toes. It wasn’t long before Amelia Ellis-Baumber found herself unmarked in the ‘D’ and neatly slotted the ball home to give the Womens 4’s an early lead. Other goal scoring opportunities went astray and Magpies found themselves back in the game and equalised the score line just before half time. The second half saw a very determined Magpies and our defence heroines, Fiona Spencer and Emma Nevell, teamed with Maz Doble in goal worked tirelessly, clearing the ball and creating further chances for the Womens 4’s. One such opportunity saw Holly Robinson weave through several Magpies players and score a magnificent solo effort. A win for the Womens 4’s looked inevitable but alas with seconds to go, a Magpies player found herself unmarked on the far post and scored just before the final whistle. It is important to mention that 6 out of the 12 players playing today for the Womens 4’s had already played in the morning supporting our Womens 3’s and Womens 5’s. The whole team should be very proud of this outstanding performance. We did “take the game to them” and the sloe gin consumed before the game probably helped too! POTM: A very well deserved Fiona Spencer
