D (1-1) 01/04/2023 - W3 vs East Coast 1 (A / L) LAST GAME OF THE SEASON |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/04/2023 VS EAST COAST 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/04/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/04/2023 HEADLINE: Last game of the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: East Coast RESULT: Drew 1-1 REPORT: City travelled to Lowestoft for their last match of the season. Spirits were high and an excellent warm was led by Chloe Holmes and Hollie Blackham, putting the team in a great position to start the match. From the first whistle the intensity was high and was clear there wasn’t much in it. Some great runs were made by Lucy and Chloe on the wing pushing City high and giving them lots of chances. With great defensive work from Gemma and Jess the team was quick to stop any possible chances of East Coast scoring. Despite Ange ‘The Hurricane’ Hindle’s great pivot of the play in the middle, making short, sharp passes between the front line and back line, East Coast managed to score a goal putting them in front. Our heads remained up and we pushed on. The great support from Longy on the sidelines kept spirits high all match. We kept the pressure on East Coast, forcing them to make mistakes. Time was running out and we were desperate for a goal. The short corner we had was the last play of the game and we knew this had to go in. Hollie Blackham pulled out a powerful slap and Lucy got a convincing touch on it to ensure it landed in the goal to finish the game. What a great season, and what a way to end it. Well done womens 3’s! POTM goes to our little dynamite Chloe

W (1-0) 25/03/2023 - W3 vs Harleston Magpies 4 (H / L) VICTORY FOR CITY FOR THEIR LAST HOME GAMES |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 25/03/2023 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/03/2023 HEADLINE: Victory for City for their last home games LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 WIN REPORT: After multiple last minute wees due to the previous match running late City finally got their last home game of the season underway. It took City a long time to settle into the game. Even when one of the Magpies players got a green card within the first 10 minutes City were unable to make use of the one man advantage. Thankfully Serena, Uma, Sally, Frankie and Niamh had us covered at the back during those tough first 20 minutes with super subs Gemma and Sabina stepping in when needed. Evie and Jenn both worked tirelessly as inners releasing the ball to the forward line. India played well up the left keeping possession and creating some good breaks into the D. Although by the end of the half City were looking much brighter after some good hockey and a couple of short corners we went into the break at 0-0. After an encouraging half time chat from coach Ali and captain Claire city returned to the pitch raring to go. Within a few minutes Magpies got one player sent off on a green card and another on a yellow but somehow City were unable to make use of this 2 player advantage and the game remained goalless. With less than 10 minutes to go, Lucy picked up a rebound from the keepers pads and hit the ball goalwards only for it to clearly hit the last defender on her shin pads. City were awarded a penalty flick. Flicks are definitely a skill that we need to practise in training as no one wanted to take it. After much deliberation Helen volunteered (because nobody else would) and took her place by the P spot. The crowd went silent and everyone held their breath. The whistle went, Helen stepped towards the ball and sent it flying to the keepers right at a perfect height. Unfortunately it was too far to the keepers right and completely missed the goal, hitting the back fence instead. Bizarrely, there were spectators that thought it had gone in and congratulated Helen on her perfect flick at the end of the game! Despite Magpies celebrating the missed flick as though they had won the league, City continued to dominate and with just 3 minutes left on the clock the ball was crossed into the D from the right across the face of goal to the back post where Hannah acrobatically lifted it on her reverse stick behind the keeper and into the back of the net. Finally it was 1-0 to City. A cracking last home game for City 3s and a massive thank you to all the supporters at the club cheering us on, they really were our 12th man and kept us going right up to the end.

L (1-5) 18/03/2023 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (A / L) AN UNFORTUNATE RESULT |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/03/2023 VS LODDON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/03/2023 HEADLINE: An unfortunate result LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Loddon RESULT: lost 5-1 REPORT: City gathered on an early, warm and bright morning to begin their 3rd from last match of the season. Their opposition, Loddon 1s were sitting comfortably in mid table. However City were confident and looking to secure some additional points. Unfortunately the game didn't go to plan from the off. Loddon had first push back and after a full team attack had scored within 30 seconds of the whistle. The weather feeling the mood turned to a light drizzle. Undeterred City battled on but unfortunately conceded another 2 goals before half time. City looked stronger in the last 10 mins of the half and had a number of attacks down the right hand side lead by Lucy McNarry. City were then awarded a short corner and with Helen Brockington injured on the bench, Evie Brockington, the younger, stepped up to the top of the D for first strike. Goal. City went into half time 3-1 down City continued to work very hard throughout the 2nd half but struggled to keep their shape and react to the frequent Loddon attacks. There were claims for a flick for City, as a defender kicked the ball away from goal with the goalie stranded. However we had to settle for a short corner. Whilst Evie produced another great strike at goal, the ball hit a defenders hand. Final score 5-1. Player of the match goes to Ange Hindle and comoletely deserved!

W (4-3) 11/03/2023 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (H / L) IT WAS ALRIGHT ON A PERFECT DAY- EVENTUALLY!! |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 11/03/2023 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/03/2023 HEADLINE: It was alright on a perfect day- eventually!! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: WON 4-3 REPORT: With some matches being postponed due to the frosty start, our early afternoon match was held in glorious sunshine – perfect conditions in which to greet Norwich Dragons. With a strong squad, captained by Kim and Ali as our coach on the side line, we went onto the pitch determined 3 points would be ours. We had only just started the match when we awarded a short corner, resulting in India being slipped the ball and took a shot towards the far-right hand post where Lucy was waiting to deflect the ball into the net. 1-0 Great Start. Dragons started to push forward but City’s defence of Jess, Karren, Sally, Serena and Kim held fast soaking up the pressure which resulted in making a goal line clearance. We were soon 2-0 up when Helen smashed in a rebound from the right-hand side. With some great play from all positions, we soon found ourselves at half time 2-0 up. Mood was confident but with constructive feedback we headed back onto the pitch not wanting the win to slip away from us like last time! City’s forward and midfield line of Charlotte, Jen, Evie, Helen, Lucy, Oliva, India and Angie were working tirelessly to score again which saw great linking up between them. Another move on the right-hand side of the pitch saw Sally run half the pitch into the attacking circle and passed it back to the flick spot where Helen was waiting to bang it in the goal. We were now 3-0 up and feeling comfortable but then, with visions of our trip to the seaside flashing before our eyes, we lost shape and suddenly Dragons scored two goals in quick concession – now 3-2. City lost some composure in the second half as Dragons pushed hard to score. We thought we had sown up the 3 points when, you guessed it, Lucy crossed the ball from the right-hand side to find Charlotte waiting to put the ball into the back of the net. Job done – 4-2. Our sense of relief didn’t last long when much to our dismay Dragons scored again – 4-3. Having received regular “how much have we got left” updates from the umpires we knew all we had to do was to shut up shop and hang on – although Debenhams was called by Angie “the Hurricane” Hindle we didn’t react quick enough and before we knew it Dragons had a short corner awarded to them and seconds later the sound of the final whistle went making the scene become extremely tense! With a few words of encouragement and wisdom on the goal line the defence headed out with purpose and determination and moments later the win was ours.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 04/03/2023 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 04/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/03/2023 HEADLINE: Local derby LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: LOST 0-1 REPORT: City 3s were determined to get a win after beating Harleston Magpies 3s earlier on in the season. The first half started with lots of even play, however, after 20 minutes, Magpies 3s got a goal from open play. We continued to push forward as a team, trying to keep possession and provide some opportunities for a goal. After an encouraging team talk at half time from coach Ali Wardale, Chris and Thomas Cooke we went into the second half with positivity and determination. City 3s had most of the possession in the second half and were hopeful to win a goal back. Time was against us in the final 10 minutes and after several short corners we couldn’t secure a goal for a draw. An unfortunate result for city 3s but an amazing work rate in the second half from the entire team which is a positive to take with us into next weeks game. Final score 0-1 to Magpies. POTM Lucy McNarry.

L (1-6) 25/02/2023 - W3 vs Colchester 1 (A / L) AN UNFORTUNATE LOSS |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 25/02/2023 VS COLCHESTER 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 25/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 25/02/2023 HEADLINE: An unfortunate loss LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Colchester RESULT: Lost 6-1 REPORT: City travelled the two hours to Colchester, determined to improve on the 7-1 defeat of their last clash. This aim was reiterated by Claire's prematch talk, reminding us of the half court press we had practiced at training. During this talk Claire also welcomed Chloe and Esme, gratefully borrowed from the 5s, Charlie (who proved to be invaluable up front despite a bleeding finger) and Uma - back from injury - along with Uma's super coach mum. As the warm-up began, City immediately understood Colchester's keenness to warm-up on the lower half of the pitch. The effects of this were immediately felt as Colchester scored within the first 2 minutes of the starting whistle! Undeterred, City stepped up well during a short flurry of hail, Jess, Longy and Sally sticking tight on Colchester's speedy forward line. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to stop a second goal before Sally was floored by a rogue ball to the knee off a Colchester stick. Ange and Claire seeing the moment to call the half court press, ensured City held the score to 2-0 when the halftime whistle sounded. This is where City made their biggest mistake of the day, failing to bust out the trusty half-time sweets. It wasn't long before they paid the price. The second half got underway and three more goals were conceded, before Charlie saw the moment to storm City's only goal of the match. City conceded a final goal from a beautifully flicked short corner, but succeeded in their aim to keep the score below 7-1! Pleased with their performance, City headed off for teas where Frankie begrudgingly accepted the award of player of the match, and the dubious honour of writing the match report

D (2-2) 18/02/2023 - W3 vs North Norfolk 1 (A / L) A DAY AT THE SEASIDE! |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 18/02/2023 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 18/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 18/02/2023 HEADLINE: A day at the seaside! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: North Norfolk RESULT: DREW 2-2 REPORT: Let’s start at the beginning....! Once upon a time a game of womens hockey required at least 22 womens, a pitch, ball, and two umpires (one that made extra good friends with our fantastic full back Longy). After the initial period of getting use to the sandy pitch. City dominated the first half, our approach was short ball hockey which was the only way to play due to the ball leaving lines in the sand. We had some strong play through the middle via Angi ‘hurricane’ Hindle and the dynamic Brockington’s who moved the ball, our first goal came from a short corner routine and was slotted away nicely by Helen Brockington. North Norfolk came back strong and trotted down to our end and the infamous four kept them out by all means possible! Even if it meant Longy nearly breaking one of her nails! After a ream of short corners we still kept them at bay! As the first half continued Holly Blackham and Chloe Holmes held their own against a physical opposition - well done! We found ourselves again in the oppositions D and Evie Brockington took control and crashed home No.2 into the bottom left hand corner from the top of the circle. Ali took our half time team chat with clip board in hand - keep the width, communicate and stay with your players! Whilst twitching those famous eyebrows! Ok, so second half started and North Norfolk came out wanting revenge and wanting the game more than us.....! Their first goal was well deserved play into the bottom right hand corner, however their second one was dubious and even though it was acknowledged that it was kicked at the top of the D, play carried on regardless, and with a goal mouth scuffle yes girls it went in! We felt a little aggrieved as the match finished 2-2. Player of the match went to our ninja goal keeper Serena who made some cracking saves and blocked numerous attempts with some cracking moves (the pre match playlist certainly helped).

WOMENS 3RD XI - 11/02/2023 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: Fantastic 4 from City 3's LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: WON 4-0 REPORT: City 3s were determined for a win against Bury 3s, after a close result against them on the away match the first half of the season. We started strong as a team, however we were under pressure in the first 15 mins of the first half. Frankie Birkenhead, Kim Cleave, Jenny Czerwinski and Gemma Sargent were confidently clearing the ball out from defence. Karren Dagless had only shortly returned from her holiday, yet calmly thwarted many Bury attacks. Jo our goalkeeper remained strong and determined to keep a clean sheet. We then picked up the pace and possession with lots of attacking play down the left side with some lovely passing between Angela Hindle, and our inners Evie Brockington and Hollie Blackham. This led to our first goal from Evie Brockington who scored from a short corner rebound off the keeper. 1-0 at half time. After a positive half time team talk from Coach Ali Wardale, City 3s went into the second half determined to secure the win and took full control of the match. Our Forwards, Claire Snelling, Helen Brockington, Lucy McNarry and Charlie Hudson-Madge had lots of attacking play which led to a string of short corners. Our second goal was scored by Evie Brockington again! A perfect goal identical to her first, looking calm and effortless! Shortly after, Helen Brockington added to the score line with a clean strike past the keeper from a pass in by Lucy McNarry on the Right Wing. Our final goal scored by Charlie Hudson- Madge was an amazing solo effort hit in from the top of the D. Final score 4-0 to City 3s. A special mention to goalkeeper Joanne Di-Corpo for helping us out and keeping a clean sheet and Frankie Birkenhead for stepping up to support us. An incredible team performance and well deserved win for NCHC Womens 3s.

Second half a stronger performance from the team, conceding less goals, having plenty of short corners, unfortunately having a strong goalie to attack against. Strong performance from Poppy with strong block tackles than being able to carry the ball from defence to attack. Great passes from Evie to Helen who than made her way into the D to give many strong shots to their goalie. Great runs from Lucy down the wing than passing to Helen or Claire who than took a shot. Great communication from Claire in the D to let everyone know where she was. Heads were held up high with support from Vicki and Hannah. Strong defence from Gemma, Serena, Sally and Jess who than managed to lead the ball high up the pitch with less of their players on us meaning more shots and attempts at the goal. Strong support made in the middle by Angela who passed the ball to the wings to make the game bigger. Emma says she heard one of the umpires saying we were very unlucky not to score with the short corners. Well played everyone

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-2 loss REPORT: City 3s started the match against league leader’s Dragons 2s without much hope! However, after 10 minutes it became apparent that there was very little between the teams and City prepared for battle. The City defence held strong with Sally Rose thwarting many Dragons attacks as they got to the circle. India Fox dominated the right side of the pitch weaving her way through tackles. Unfortunately for City, the first goal went Dragons way from a short corner. City didn’t give up and before half time Evie Brockington managed to even the score. In the second half the game was end to end. Dragons nearly scoring on several occasions after frantic goalmouth action but GK Serena Scott calmly guided the ball away. Eventually one Dragon dribbled through the City defence and scored their second goal. Emily Greenway and Lucy McNarry used their speed to launch attack after attack down the right wing resulting in fantastic crosses that so nearly enabled City to equalise. Alas it was not to be but City can hold their heads high having definitely worried the league leaders! An incredible team performance with every player giving 100% shown in the fact that it was a three way draw for Player of the Match!

Sudbury, however, had some strong attacks in the first 10 minutes and soon won a penalty stroke. Despite an impressive dive by Serena Scott, Sudbury scored and City were left playing catch up. City didn’t panic and started to pass the ball around more confidently building many promising attacks. Chloe Holmes and Hollie Blackham made some great runs and City finally got the equaliser they deserved just before half-time. In the second half, City took full control of the match. Jess Taylor-Balls and India Fox quickly stopped any Sudbury attacks and surprised the opposition by making their own impressive runs from defence. Lucy McNarry scored early in the second half which opened the floodgates. Within minutes Ange Hindle scored City’s third goal with a new penalty corner tactic known as the bobbler! Before long, Chloe Holmes added her name to the scoresheet following a goalmouth scramble with City players falling over the goalkeeper in their determination to score. City pushed hard for the rest of the match and were close to scoring several more goals but the score remained 4-1. A fantastic start to the second half of the season!

The day was full of drama, even before push back with slashing of rain, pulverizing hailstones and lightening strikes. Despite the 4 week break City started strong. Procession had definitely been in City's favour however East Coast were the first to hit the backboard. A pass back to the top of the D, lead to a powerful strike from their centre back, that could not be stopped. City responded well and continued to pass the ball across the team and into space. Evie showed great determination winning every 50/50 on the left. Her link up play with Kim helped provided a number of attacking runs. Whilst Helen, Charlie and Lauren worked their magic in the d to win multiple short corners. One short corner routine saw a slip left to Helen, who's shot at the bottom left corner was deflected in by Charlie. 1-1 With 20 seconds left on the clock City felt going into half time all tied was reflective of the game. However East Coast had other ideas and scored a scrappy goal on the whistle. City went into the second half; up beat, cold and wet. Play was end to end with short corners for both teams. However shortly before the end of the game East Coast converted a short corner to seal the victory. City continued to fight to the end, but it was not to be. Great team effort and City 3s will take confidence from such a positive performance as they taken on Sudbury next week.

We started the game positively with lots of possession, leading to Emily Greenway securing our first goal from a pass in from Lucy McNarry. There was lots of even play from both teams however Harleston got a goal to equalise at 1-1 just before half time. We started the second half ready to try and get ahead of Harleston again with lots great play from Kim Cleave, Liv Broadway, and Hannah Sangar to push the ball forwards and create some chances for us to get a second goal. City got a couple of short corner chances, however, when Harleston got an opportunity to attack it lead to another goal meaning they were 2-1 up. Only 10 mins left and city weren’t giving up yet. Lots of great attacking play from India F and Evie B to the forward players Claire S, Helen B and Lucy M which lead to another goal from Emily Greenway making it 2-2. Final score 2-2 and another week unbeaten for city 3’s.

Evie Brockington opened the scoring for City but Loddon didn’t take long to get one back. City were under pressure from some good passing and teamwork from Loddon. However a fantastic reverse stick strike from Charlie Hudson-Madge just before the half-time whistle meant we went into the break 2-1 up. City aimed to stretch their lead at the start of the second half but were to be disappointed as Loddon not only equalised but went on to score 2 more goals in quick succession. City kept fighting and never gave up and got several penalty corners. Charlie Hudson-Madge scored a great goal off one of these to add to her tally. With less than 10 minutes to go another penalty corner was awarded and although it didn’t go as we had planned somehow Lucy McNarry edged the ball over the line to even the score up at 4-4. An exciting game and another point for City as they extend their unbeaten streak to 3 games!!!

The first half saw end to end play with the city fullbacks confidently seeing off Dragons’ efforts. City had several great attacks with Ange Hindle controlling the midfield and distributing the ball well. Lucy McNarry consistently stormed through the Dragons defence down the right wing but unfortunately City went into the half time break 1-0 down following an unlucky goal. In the second half, City finally managed to convert one of their many penalty corners. Sadly, their joy was short lived as Dragons almost immediately regained their lead. Not ready to give up the unbeaten streak (surely one game counts as a streak?!) Charlie Hudson-Madge made another strong run with the ball and her cross was slotted home by Helen Brockington. With just five minutes to play, City pushed for the win with a penalty corner on the final whistle but had to settle for a draw in the end. A great team performance showing real potential for some more wins to come this season!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 05/11/2022 VS COLCHESTER 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: A rainy Saturday and an early start... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: Lost 7-1 REPORT: This week City 3s played host to Colchester 1s, and despite initial concerns over a lack of our normal defenders, City started the game with an air of confidence. An early attack into the Colchester D saw Helen Brockington set up Emily Greenway for an excellent opening goal. Unfortunately, Colchester reacted with vigor and soon evened the score with a goal of their own. City kept up the work rate, but Colchester was just that bit quicker to each ball and their slick passing allowed them to cut through the city defence several more times before half time. City went into the 2nd half determined to get back into the game, but despite a valiant effort from the whole team, Colchester continued to dominate and had added several more to their goal tally by the full time whistle, finishing with 7 goals to City’s 1.

Norwich City defence worked hard with some great saves from Goalkeeper Jo. This didn’t stop Norwich city with lots of great play from Inners Hollie B, Evie B and Jen C. City’s first goal was scored from a pass across the goal by Lucy M to Helen B which she hit into the bottom right corner. 2-1 to Bury at Half time and after a motivating talk from Ali, Nathan and Gemma, we came out stronger in the 2nd half. City 3s had most of the possession in the 2nd half. A pass from Hollie B to Claire S, which was then passed in front of Lucy M who launched it into the top left corner of the goal, led to another goal for city! Only 5 minutes left and the score was 4-2 to Bury. City 3s still had lots of opportunities from plenty of short corners and on the final whistle Helen B scored her 2nd goal from a short corner straight strike! Full time score 4-3 to Bury. WOMENS 3RD XI - 15/10/2022 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 15/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 15/10/2022 HEADLINE: Hockey with a smile LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-3 REPORT: 'We arrived to a buoyant atmosphere in the changing room, with stand-in captain Kim Cleave leading the discussion on tactics and Karen Dagless providing some analysis of our upcoming Bury opposition. L3s nailed a brisk warm up, with Nathan and Ali providing coaching wisdom from the side line. As the first half started, the play was evenly match with play at both ends of the pitch. Bury's first goal came from a straight strike from the top of the D, deflection from a city stick. The latter goals were clipped in from Bury’s youngsters. Putting the above aside, city are growing as a team and will start scoring points with time. As long as you can come of the pitch with a smile then thats not a bad result. Well done to everyone. Special well done to Serena Scott for POTM this week and for a very colourful match report prior to this edit.

L (0-2) 01/10/2022 - W3 vs North Norfolk 1 (H / L) A BRIGHT AND EARLY PUSHBACK! |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/10/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/10/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/10/2022 HEADLINE: A bright and early pushback! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-2 REPORT: The home side went on the attack from the first whistle, drawing several short corners from the North Norfolk defence. North Norfolk were dangerous at their breaks, which turned out to be rewarding for them in the 2nd half. Good interplay between El, Gillian & Hollie in mid, but NCHC still couldn’t convert our chances & both teams went in goalless at half time! The second half saw NCHC increase the tempo with Lucy providing dangerous play down the right & Ange creating inroads into the North N. Defence from the middle. As NCHC pushed forward in search of the opening goal, we got caught on the breakaway with N.N taking the lead much against the run of play! NCHC then laid siege with a flurry of short corners & missed opportunities unfortunately. However it was not to be our day as N.N broke away in the dying minutes to snatch a 2nd goal. This was such a spirited performance from our super 3rd team, it will only be a matter of time before they start to pick up points - POTM went to India Fox (many thanks).

WOMENS 3RD XI - 24/09/2022 VS SUDBURY 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 24/09/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 24/09/2022 HEADLINE: Early risers travel to Sudbury for the first league game LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Sudbury RESULT: Lost 1-0 REPORT: An early start for womens 3's away at Sudbury for a 10:30 am pushback. City turned up bright and eager for the first league game of the season, with lots of changes to the squad and new players whilst welcoming back some returning players. Eager and ready to face what we were challenged with, the Womens 3's appeared in energetic spirits and ready to play. Lots of new faces and changes meant that the first part of the game was spent getting used to one another, unfortunately, Sudbury used this to their advantage and put their first goal in early on resulting in a 1-0 up scoreline for Sudbury. City came back fighting, eager to show them what they could do. With strong defensive work and runs from the defensive line, Gemma and Jess T-B gave Sudbury something to think about. Good interlinking play from the center-halves and half-backs, Sue, Ange, Emma, and Kim created lots of opportunities for City however as the half-time whistle went it remained 1-0 to Sudbury. The start of the second half showed more possession from City with strong interlinking play and determination from the inners and forwards, El, Hannah, Claire, Lucy, Ellie, and Vicki leading to the majority of the half being spent in the attacking 'D'. Numerous short corners did not go in City's favour with lots to be learned from however the teamwork and possession were paramount, City was out to fight for a win. Unfortunately, despite numerous shots on goal, Sudbury kept strong defensively and kept any shot clear. The final whistle went with Sudbury winning 1-0 despite City having the advantage and possessing the ball. Lots to move forward on and positive spirits and attitudes leading into the second league match of the season. Player of the Match goes to El Jarvis for her relentless hard work as inner and strong runs with the ball against Sudbury. Closely followed by Gem Sargent for her strong defensive skills and effortless runs towards the attacking 'D'.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 03/09/2022 VS LODDON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 03/09/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 03/09/2022 HEADLINE: A boyant start to the season! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Loddon RESULT: WON 7-2 REPORT: A boyant womens 3's met at Langley school to take on Loddon. The match began with some fierce play up and down the pitch, with L3's becoming aware that they were being channelled down the middle of the pitch and Loddon being most powerful on the break. After calming our play Liv Broadway opened the scoring with a stunning strike from the top of the D. Becoming stronger by the minute L3's consolidated their play and a foot in the D created by Ellie Alderton led to a short corner. Alderton converted a perfect insertion by Broadway into a straight powerful strike bringing the score to 2-0. Loddon came back with a lucky goal, but an amazing run and strike from Hannah Sangar brought the score to 3-1. Constructive passing and play from the team as a whole led to another goal from Alderton bringing the scoreline to 4-1. A half time talk from Ali Wardale (surprise appearance) and Claire Snelling led the squad to focus on passing and possession for the second half. With this in mind the play immediately improved and City held possession for the majority of the half. In a change of positioning super defender Gillian Allen played upfront and showed she is a player of many talents but sending the ball cracking into the backboard twice in quick succession! Loddon clawed back one goal this half (special mention to Jo Di Corpo who had an amazing game) only to be punished once again by a strike from Jess Taylor-Balls bringing the final score to 7-2. POTM was Evie Brockington after an amazing game from start to finish!
