W (2-1) 30/03/2019 - W3 vs Pelicans 2 (A / L) CITY SECURE SECOND |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 30/03/2019 VS PELICANS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 30/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 30/03/2019 HEADLINE: City secure second LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Kings Lynn (away) RESULT: 1-2 (win) REPORT: In their crucial last match of the season, Norwich City came away with all three points after a win against Pelicans to secure second position in the Norfolk Premier Division. The match started off slowly due to the unseasonal heat and with City sloppy in possession they allowed Pelicans to catch a quick break to open the scoring. City were indebted to keeper Sophia Colman who prevented them falling further behind when she pulled off an instinctive save that set up a quick counter break, resulting in Hannah Bush racing clear of the home team’s defence to win a short corner. Captain Kim Lusher was keen to add to her goal tally for the season and her crisp strike headed towards the goal before Caroline Illing added the coup de grace with a cheeky deflection over the stick of the last defender. The second half saw City have more than 70% of the possession but they found the young Pelicans goalkeeper in outstanding form to thwart them at every turn. With time running out, player of the match Niamh Campbell received the ball at the top of the circle and, after beating two defenders, slipped the ball to Caroline who managed to squeeze the ball past the keeper from a very acute angle. All they had to do was keep possession and, with Jenni Stanghan and Ellie Hobden holding the middle of the pitch well, City saw off one last Pelicans attack to win the game and end the season on a high.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 23/03/2019 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 23/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 23/03/2019 HEADLINE: 3s win with 2 goals LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 2-0 (win) REPORT: NCHC 3s’ were keen from the off in their penultimate match of the season against Evergreens 1s’. Having said goodbye to their star centre forward Holly Totten the week before, city found themselves with a few new youngsters in their midst; Gabby Sharp and Frances Underhill making their debut appearances up front, and Sophia Colman in goal. City started very well and were dominating the possession, with good passing and link up play between the mid fielders and the forwards. Emma Richardson and Sabina Baker were strong at the back and were distributing the ball well to half backs, Emily Spencer, Jenny Brine and Charlotte Baxter. City won a short corner early on and captain Kim Lusher opened the scoring with a straight strike bouncing straight past the Evergreens defense and keeper. City continued to dominate the play and were unlucky not to convert several further short corners in the first half. The second half started with city 1-0 up and determined to increase their lead. Heather Tasker and Player of the Match Jenni Stanghan were working tirelessly in midfield to get the ball up to the hungry forwards, and after a lovely run down the right wing, Frances Underhill crossed the ball to Liv Greenway who was able to slap the ball past the Evergreens keeper making it 2-0 to City. Evergreens fought back and City had to work hard to keep them at bay, but the hard work paid off when the final whistle blew and City had managed to hold on to their 2-0 lead.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/03/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/03/2019 HEADLINE: Six goal send off for Holly LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 6-1 (win) REPORT: It was an epic game for the NCHC womens 3s on Saturday; battling Dragons 4s in gale force winds. A good start for City but, with missed opportunities and missed short corners, the hosts just couldn’t find the goal. With Dragons fighting hard and something not quite clicking for City, Dragons snatched a goal just before half time. After some wise words from the home side coach Pies at half time, City started the second half with steely determination. An early short corner saw captain Kim Lusher smash the ball home. (Her fourth goal of the season, just in case you hadn’t heard!) City’s second goal came from an excellent ball in, as always, from Niamh Campbell. The keeper went to ground and Player of the match Holly Totten managed to push it past and into the goal. Some great passing play and strong defending saw City continue with enthusiasm, and Caroline Illing secured the third goal. City continued to pass the ball with confidence making great use of space. Again, Niamh picked up the ball and made a fantastic pass to Holly. One on one with the keeper, Holly side stepped and pushed the ball in for a glorious fourth City goal. Great running and positioning from Olivia Greenway saw her grab the next score, with her sister Emily securing the final goal of the game after fighting hard on the goal line. A fantastic team effort today, all players working hard and determined to win in Holly’s last game for Norwich City Hockey Club. What a send off for our star player!

D (2-2) 09/03/2019 - W3 vs Lowestoft Railway 1 (A / L) TYPICAL BRITISH WEATHER FOR A DAY AT THE SEASIDE. |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/03/2019 VS LOWESTOFT RAILWAY 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/03/2019 HEADLINE: Typical British weather for a day at the seaside. LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Lowestoft Railway RESULT: 2-2 draw REPORT: NCHC women’s 3s travelled to Lowestoft Railway with high hopes for another 3 points after their convincing win against Dereham the previous week. Unfortunately with many of the usual line up unavailable it had proved to be a difficult week for captain Kim to get a team together, so big thanks go to POTM Sabina Baker for making her debut appearance in the 3rd team, and to development girls Livvy and Tilly Hill for putting in sterling performances in their first match in senior women’s hockey. City struggled early on to get used to the slow pitch and Lowestoft punished them by making several interceptions in dangerous positions on the pitch. The city defence worked hard to keep Lowestoft at bay, and midfield were able to get the occasional pass up to forwards, Liv Greenway and Holly Totten who looked dangerous on the break. Unsurprisingly, Lowestoft were the first to find the goal, slipping the ball past keeper, Grace Thrower, who had already needed to make several saves. City kept fighting and were rewarded with a number of short corners which they had unfortunately been unable to convert. The weather was doing everything it could to spoil city’s efforts, with strong winds slowing down their attacks. With only a few seconds to go before half time, city won another short corner and the heavens opened, pelting the team with hail stones as they lined up around the D. Emily Spencer took an initial straight strike which the keeper got a foot to, but Emily found the back board with a clinical second attempt putting the two teams at one a piece going into the half time break. The sun came out for the second half and city upped their efforts, making wave after wave of attacks on the Lowestoft defence. Emma Richardson was distributing the ball well at centre half, and Jenni Stanghan tested the Lowestoft defence on a number of occasions driving the ball round the base line but unable to find a city stick in front of goal. Eventually Liv Greenway found herself in space at the top of the D and was able to make a strong hit towards the post where Ellie Hobden tucked it past the keeper and put city into the lead for the first time in the game. Lowestoft turned up the heat after this and Jenny Brine and Sabina Baker had to work tirelessly at the back to keep city on top, but in the dying moments of the game Lowestoft found themselves on the break and city were outnumbered and unable to keep the ball from sneaking in at the far post. Whilst disappointed not to come away with all 3 points, the team were pleased with their efforts away from home.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 02/03/2019 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 02/03/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 02/03/2019 HEADLINE: Hobden hat-trick LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 0-6 (win) REPORT: Storm Freya may have shown its face midway through the match between the 3rd teams of Dereham and Norwich City but the former were blown away by the pace and finesse shown by the visiting Norwich City womens. With player of the match Niamh Campbell running behind the Dereham defence a number of chances and short corners were created in the opening half. Captain Kim Lusher sweetly struck a short corner beyond the young but impressive Dereham keeper to open the scoring. Ellie Hobden skilfully deflected a Niamh shot into the side netting, before Holly Totten finished off a goal-mouth scramble with a hard flick onto the backboard. Not content with just two career goals Kim fired home another short corner and promptly ran off celebrating to the half way line at the pace of Usain Bolt. The second half saw Dereham competing more strongly in the midfield but with Marie Hood and Emma Richardson marshalling the defence it allowed Heather Tasker and Jenny Stangham to conduct a foray of attacks down the wings. A great series of passes between Heather, Niamh and Marie saw Ellie score her second and Norwich’s fifth with a lovely reverse stick finish. With a short corner awarded at the final whistle Ellie completed her hat trick via another deflection from Emma’s initial shot. Final score was an impressive six goals for the City visitors.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/02/2019 VS LODDON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/02/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/02/2019 HEADLINE: Norwich City 3rds and Loddon 1s battle for 2nd place LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED REPORT: A frustrating early morning fixture away at London saw City 3rds lose the battle for second place in the league - but with a game in hand, there's still an opportunity for City 3rds to regain the second place before the end of the season. The first half was disappointing as the quick Loddon forwards broke through the defence to score in the first 5 minutes. A second goal quickly followed from a short corner. The determination to get back in to the game saw the midfield pushing to win the ball back and a great ball into the circle from Jenny Stanghan found Holly unmarked and her amazing first time slap flew into the bottom corner. Unfortunately the 3s couldn’t capitalise and Loddon managed to get a breakaway goal in the last minute of the first half. The second half started with Emily firing the ball down the line to Niamh who drove down the baseline and slipped the ball back to Effie who scored with a hard push into the sideboard. Again momemtum was lost as a crash ball saw Loddon regain a 2 goal cushion with a fore hand shot into the corner of the goal. Norwich continued to play the better hockey moving the ball from flank to flank to open an opportunity for Holly to win a short corner. Florence’s rocket strike from the top of the D saw a Loddon player deflect the ball into the top corner. The next goal was going to be crucial and unfortunately it went to London as a charged down short corner saw the rebound fall invitingly to a Loddon forward to make the score 5-3. With 5 minutes left Norwich continued to create overloads and chances but we couldnt execute them well enough to narrow the scoring, with Loddon running out 5-3 winners

Niamh Campbell scored the first of the host’s goals with help from the strong forward line to get into the circle, followed by a solid individual conversion by Niamh herself. Another great goal closely followed from Ellie Hobden. However UEA 2s were not giving up and, with a few short corners and opportunities in the circle, they got their first score. City’s defensive unit held off the visitors and they also fought back with a powerful goal from City’s Matilda Butterworth. But another short corner for UEA lead to a strong hit going straight in the corner, leaving City to come out with a well fought 3-2 win.

City knew that and came out fighting. The hosts worked well to weave and pass around the Magpies defence, beating them on speed and gaining a couple of one on ones with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately City couldn’t convert. Magpies showed some great individual skill and then trickled in a lucky goal by Cassie Ayms in the first half. A good battle followed but without further scoring, making it 0-1 for the visitors.

City’s Effie Bowley and Holly Robinson got off to a flying start with two goals each in the first half, making it four nil to the hosts. Broadland 2s player Nikki Kent got one for the visitors after a quick break. But a couple more goals for City, by Ellie Hobden and captain Kim Lusher, meant that City finished off with an impressive 6-1 victory and a return to their winning ways.

City started the first half very well with most of the possession, their forwards making some brilliant runs, and gaining short corner after short corner, but the away team just couldn’t convert. Broadland took advantage of any break they made and managed to get a two on two, which lead to a tap in on the post. City didn’t give up in the second half, and continued to fight hard, but they couldn’t match the hosts, who scored another two more for a three nil win.

W (3-1) 08/12/2018 - W3 vs Norwich City 4 (H / L) PRE-CHRISTMAS WIN |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 08/12/2018 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/12/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/12/2018 HEADLINE: Pre-Christmas win LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (home) RESULT: 3-1 (win) REPORT: The Saturday before the long Christmas break for NCHC saw the eagerly awaited crunch fixture between their women’s 3s and 4s. The first half was goalless until the final minute when 3s player of the match Niamh Campbell stole possession at the top of the 25 and drove to the baseline, before pulling the ball back for Olivia Greenway to open the scoring. With an inspiring half-time team talk from coach Nick Hooper and captain Kim Lusher, the 3s started the second half more assuredly. A momentary lapse in concentration saw the 4s win a penalty flick, from which Abi Flatt equalised. But this spurred the 3s into playing the ball more quickly and, from a free hit inside their own half, Tilly Butterworth powered forward and slipped the ball to Olivia, who ghosted past the last defender and crossed to goal-scorer Holly Robinson for the 3s to retake the lead. With the 3s then pressing high, Jenny Stangham created a number of goal chances, which unfortunately weren’t converted. But, as the match came to a close, Kate Houldey and Tilly worked the ball cleverly together to free up Niamh in the D and her reverse shot, which was sailing wide, was expertly deflected into the goal by Holly to round off a nervy but important 11th straight win for the 3s. Well done to both teams for a hard-fought close game before the well-earned Christmas break.

Throughout the match, City were the dominant team - they kept control of the ball and constantly broke through the opposition’s defence. Holly Robinson opened the scoring and Olivia Greenway followed with a second, also impressive, goal to make it 0-2 at half time. City started the second half confident that they would increase the scoreline, and put on an excellent attacking display with many shots on goal. Olivia Greenway converted two of these and with that secured herself a very well-deserved hat trick. Player of the match Kate Houldey was on hand to support the forwards, help set them up and keep the momentum going. Next was Niamh Campbell who, showing skillfull attacking play throughout the game, scored a powerful hit and carried on City’s quick succession of goals. Holly Robinson scored her second and the team’s final goal, securing a 6-0 victory and continuing the 3’s phenomenal 10 match winning streak.

The second half saw a better conversion rate, with Olivia getting her second, followed by further goals from Jenni Stangham and player of the match Annabel Pounder. The fourth score from the visitors rounded off a strong team performance.

City had a slow start, but the last 10 minutes of the first half showed what they are capable of and saw City put away three goals - coming from Olivia Greenway, Marie Hood and Sasha Ferreira. City really showed from their training how pulling the ball out of the situation and switching the play makes it easier to get down the pitch and into the opposition D. In the second half Lowestoft Railway came out strong and took City by surprise with a goal early in the second half. Lowesoft's front line dropped, making it difficult for City to get into their 23. But City looked confident taking the ball back to draw out players, opening up gaps for the creative play of Niamh Campbell and Flo Cunningham (player of the match) both tirelessly hassling the Lowestoft players, creating many chances. City put the pressure on by creating shorts and keeping possession, and were rewarded for their determination and patience with a final goal from Ellie Hobden putting city 4-1 up. Team spirits were high and the hosts didn’t give up till the final whistle.

A dominant display ensured that a win was never in doubt, as City attempted to make up ground on the league leaders, Broadland Women's 1s. From pushback, City had control and launched wave after wave of attack. Player of the match Kate Houldey opened the scoring with a push to the corner of the goal, which crept in beside the keeper's foot. The run continued with goals from Sasha Ferreira and Jennifer Stanghan, who both managed to beat the keeper with effective shots. The last goal of the first half came from a short corner. After an accurate injection from Olivia Greenway, Ellie Hobden slapped the ball to the right post, where Holly Robinson was waiting to perfectly execute a deflection into the top of the net. In the second half, the rate of goal scoring slowed, due to a stronger Dereham defensive performance. But the visitors couldn’t prevent two further goals. Niamh Campbell scored a powerful backstick shot from the top of the D, and Olivia Greenway converted her second, and the final, goal of the game, making it 6-0 to City.

The second half was well matched and UEA equalised early on, catching City on the break. In response, a quickly-taken long corner saw player of the match Marie Hood seal the victory, striking home from the top of the D to make it 2-3. The first goal came from an attacking short corner, converted by City’s player of the match Emma Richardson. Following more good runs from City’s inners and forwards, Holly Totten received the ball and had a great shot on goal that hit the post, but Zara Howes caught the rebound to make it 2-0. City kept strong at the back with Karen Dagless and Jenny Brine working hard to keep the visitors out of the D, plus some brilliant saves from City keeper Milly Hyatt. After half time, a dominant City played more lovely link up balls between the forwards and the inners, adding Olivia Greenway to the score sheet to make it 3-0. Broadland came out more defiant in the second half, finding gaps and sneaking in their first goal. Gaining momentum, Broadland scored a second, decreasing the host’s lead to just one goal. But with some strong running from Jenny Stangham and some great partnering with Ellie Hobden, City attacked and a cross ball in the was tapped over the line by Olivia Greenway waiting on the post. Final score 4-2 to City, who will be more than ready for the league fixture against Broadland.

The first half started evenly, with simple hockey and one-two touch passes. As City built momentum, they ventured into the opposition half on multiple occasions, via some lovely runs through Heather Tasker and Ellie Hobden, two great little players. In midfield, captain Kim Lusher and Marie Hood turned out a solid performance. Upfront, Annabel Pounder helped set up City’s first goal, with Heather getting her team on the scoreboard and giving them the lead going into the second half. Loddon slowly pulled themselves back into the game with a goal from Beverley Bucklee. But the visitors couldn’t convert any of the short corners they demanded, all of which were dispensed with by City’s keeper, and player of the match, Serena Scott. Into the last 20 minutes of them game, Loddon got another short corner. Karren Dagless defended fearlessly even when a straight strike got her on the knee and Loddon’s umpire awarded them a penalty flick. Serena was having none of it; she saved the flick and kept City in the game. City fought hard and pushed further into the visitor’s half within the last five minutes. It was then Olivia Greenway who slotted a cracking a ball into the back of the net to put the hosts ahead again. City kept calm and carried the game to the end, making victory theirs.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 29/09/2018 VS BROADLAND 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 29/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 29/09/2018 HEADLINE: Holly hat-trick! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (away) RESULT: 2-3 (win) REPORT: Norwich City women's 3s got a winning goal in the final stroke of a nail-biting contest against Broadland 2s. Within a minute of the first whistle, City 3s opened the scoring with what must have been their quickest ever goal; debutante Matilda Butterworth sped down the right wing and crossed in to Holly Totten the goal scorer, to put their team ahead. Broadland weren't put off and equalised before half time. It was a tense team talk during the break, as City had battled hard and kept most of the possession in the first half, but hadn't scored since that opening minute. Holly then put City back in the lead with her second goal but again Broadland responded almost immediately to make it 2-2. City maintained control of the game, with some great play from defender Emma Richardson and player of the match Charlotte Baxter. In the final moment of the game, a determined City was awarded a short corner and then the final whistle blew, which meant the entire team came up to campaign for a winning goal. Their first attempt was thwarted by a Broadland foul, so City were given another short. Caroline Illing received the ball on the top of the D, passed left to Emma Richardson, who fired the ball in and Holly finished off the game with a hat-trick for her and a well-deserved win for her team!

WOMENS 3RD XI - 22/09/2018 VS BROADLAND 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 22/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 22/09/2018 HEADLINE: Well fought battle LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-6 (loss) REPORT: Norwich City womens 3s hosted the strong side of Broadland 1st team in what became an end to end game. An early score from Broadland had City on the back foot, but the hosts replied via a goal from Olivia Greenway, followed by some good movement in both attack and defence by City. There were more scoring opportunities on both sides, with Broadland getting another and then City’s Flo Cunningham putting one past the visitors to make it 2-2 at half time. Sadly for City the second half saw Broadland extend an unassailable lead, with some incisive and clinical attacks on goal. Marie Hood did get the third goal for City, and player of the match Effie Bowley was involved in some lovely forward play and attacking drives, yet the final score was 3-6 to a strong visiting side. Despite the result there was much to celebrate for City; lots of neat passing and quick movement, with captain Kim Lusher marshalling the defence from the back. There was a terrific team spirit among the womens and observers commented that the contest was considerably more even than suggested by the final score.

W (2-0) 15/09/2018 - W3 vs Norwich City 4 (A / L) HARD FIRST GAME |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 15/09/2018 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 15/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 15/09/2018 HEADLINE: Hard first game LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham (A) RESULT: 0-2 (W) REPORT: The Norwich City womens 3s kickstarted the new season with an inter-club clash against City 4s and it was a hard game from the first whistle. The 3s had a strong start, dominating possession, but failed to get an early goal and missed a number of attacking short corners. The nil-nil half-time score warranted a firm team talk from the coach, and there followed a better second-half performance from the 3s. The deadlock was finally broken as Kate Houldey drove down the right, fired the ball to Liv Broadway, who had an excellent first touch and a composed finish to get on the scoresheet. A second goal for the 3s came when a short corner routine was successful with Marie Hood (player of the match) and Jenni Stangham linking up for Marie to slot the ball home. It was a hard fought 0-2 win for the 3s at the start of what will be a competitive season for both City teams.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 08/09/2018 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 08/09/2018 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 08/09/2018 HEADLINE: NCHC womens 3s ready for the new season LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-2 (L) REPORT: City entered into a challenging match against a physical and goal-hungry Magpies 4s team on Saturday. From first push back, however, City had the best of the play, upping their game as the match unfolded and the new line-up began to gel as a team. City worked hard to keep possession, launching wave after wave of attack but unfortunately were unable to find the back of the net. A determined Magpies side used their pace to accelerate towards the goal after any ball turnover and took full advantage of the opportunities they created in City’s D to net two goals in this friendly pre-season match. The result doesn't reflect the strong performance from City, who no doubt have an exciting season ahead.
