With young opposition players poised to intercept at every second, City had to keep their wits about them, work in pairs or triangles and ensure they worked hard to get to the ball first. Several runs up the right eventually paid off when winger Lucy McNarry worked round the goalie blocking her path with a tomahawk shot. Shortly after, team newcomer and player of the match Katy Walker made an impressive debut when she netted a deflection goal from a cross in by Fran Cooked. City continued to press hard and eventually a foul in the D earned them a penalty – admirably netted with one of Fran Cooke’s signature powerful lifted flicks. City went into the half-time break three nil up, but were reminded to stay vigilant and make sure they were first to the ball every time. After the break, both teams stepped up the pace and pressure but another fine cross from Fran Cooke was expertly netted by Sharon Phillips who took her time to slot the ball neatly in the left corner. Just minutes later there was another carbon-copy goal, but with different players – this time it was a pass in by Josine Van Den Berg that was slotted into the left of the net by Liz Hollis. Unfortunately, Magpies managed to win a goal back in the second half, but City added another in the final 10 minutes to assure a safe win when Julia Marchant deflected a cross from Lucy McNarry.

Match-day coach Dave Skinner led a high-energy warm up and put the team through some heart-rate raising sprints that had City fired up and ready. The first half saw end-to-end play with dangerous breaks by both teams but no conversions. A skilful Yarmouth captain acted as the key playmaker in the opposition team’s centre, sending dangerous balls out to her forwards who looked constantly threatening. Full back defenders Carol McNarry and Vicki Myhill had to dig deep to mop up the balls and use their signature hitting skills to make some hard-ball clearances out to safety. City goalie Charlotte Harrad was repeatedly called into action, making some great saves and winning the player-of-the-match award. Meanwhile, City frequently counter attacked with some excellent work by midfielder Jane Loughridge acting as a central pivot for City and some notable right wing runs by Lucy McNarry. After a break, the game continued at the same intensity, but unfortunately 10-minutes into play Yarmouth scored from one of the many short corners awarded to both sides in the match. A powerful strike was deflected in at an impossible angle and Yarmouth went one goal ahead. City refused to give up and looked likely to score at any point, but couldn’t quite find an equaliser leaving the final score at one nil to Yarmouth.

D (1-1) 04/03/2017 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 6 (A / L) THE TRADITIONALLY TOUGH BATTLE OF THE SIXES |

LADIES 6TH XI - 04/03/2017 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 04/03/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 04/03/2017 HEADLINE: The traditionally tough Battle of the Sixes LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons' Den RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: The last few matches against Dragons 6s have ended in a draw and this local derby was no different. Dragons 6s are on form at the moment, and players on both teams arrived expecting the traditionally tough Battle of the Sixes. City went ahead within seconds of push back after a free hit from Carol McNarry was eventually sent into the D and netted by Julia Marchant. The rest of the match wasn’t quite so easy, with Dragons playing their signature skilful triangle-passing game that their opponents know and love so well (not!) and City getting in the middle of the play to break it up and intercept balls. City defended well with Annabelle Conway clearing on the line (and winning runner-up player of the match). City keeper Grace Thrower also made some fantastic saves that merited a mention in the Dragons' own report of the match as well as the NCHC player of the match award. City attacked and defended hard but unfortunately, Dragons managed to pull a goal back, keeping the score line a traditional even stevens. The rest of the match was a good-natured and tough battle, with City stepping up the pressure after pitch-side coach Dave Skinner instructed the team to take out the Dragons' experienced playmaker in the centre of the pitch. City seemed to have the slight upper hand towards the closing stages of the game but the team unfortunately couldn’t penetrate the Dragons' defence. City won plenty of short corners, and defended plenty more, but the result stayed a draw.

W (3-1) 25/02/2017 - W6 vs Watton 3 (H / L) A WIN - BUT PROBABLY NOT OUR FINEST 70 MINUTES. |

LADIES 6TH XI - 25/02/2017 VS WATTON 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 25/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 25/02/2017 HEADLINE: A win - but probably not our finest 70 minutes. LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-1 REPORT: Struggling Watton played a messy game from the off – and unfortunately Norwich 6s struggled to maintain their customary disciplined, neat passing game. The Watton captain could frequently be heard shouting at her team: ‘run, don’t walk girls’ to no avail and the pace was mostly slower than it should be. However, City made plenty of breaks, with Lucy McNarry and player of the match Sharon Phillips powering the ball up the pitch giving the home team the best of the play. Eventually, the frequent chances paid off when Sharon deflected in a cross from the right. More scrappy play followed, with Norwich again struggling to keep their game neat and slick. Then eventually, the superior skills of City paid off, with captain Julia Marchant impressively netting two crosses in from the right. City went into the break three nil up. A half-time talk from pitch-side coach Dave Skinner encouraged City to stay strong and play their own game, but it was tough to execute and play clustered in the centre of the pitch. Ball after ball was blasted randomly from Watton’s 16s away over the home team’s back line by a powerful-hitting but off-target Watton defender. It was a puzzling game, with Watton bunched in the centre of the pitch and in their defensive D. However, City still has their work cut out at times to contain a young, stand-out Watton playmaker who attacked with pace and skill and sent in effective crosses - one of which unfortunately found the net. The second half probably wasn’t City’s finest moment, but there were still some great passing moves and tackles, plus some excellent saves from debut goalie Grace Thrower.

L (3-5) 11/02/2017 - W6 vs Lowestoft Railway 2 (H / L) CONFIDENT RAILWAY OPPOSITION NOW ON TRACK FOR PROMOTION |

LADIES 6TH XI - 11/02/2017 VS LOWESTOFT RAILWAY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 11/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 11/02/2017 HEADLINE: Confident Railway opposition now on track for promotion LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-5 Norwich 6s top-table hopes were derailed this week when they faced a youthful, well-drilled and impressive Lowestoft Railway 2s. City needed to win this game with a sizeable goal difference to regain their top-two position and stand a chance of moving up a league. But it was clear from the off that this was going to be a challenge against such resolute opposition. Railway came out strong, taking a usually-dominant City 6s by surprise and forcing them back deep into their defensive 25. Within 10 minutes City were three goals to nil down and fighting to rediscover their usual impressive rhythm. Under the onslaught, City temporarily lost their customary shape and passing triangles. Despite a few breaks and good attempts on goal, however, City couldn’t find the net. A half-time rethink saw City decide their game tactics were a little off-track (ahem) and they were allowing Lowestoft to railroad them into responding to play and group around the attacking ball rather than control play themselves. In the second half City held their shape far better and it paid off. They increased their width and depth and took more care to outlet the ball and avoid the eager awaiting sticks of the youthful high press that had been picking them off in the first half. Suddenly, it started to look a whole lot better, with City having more of the play in their attacking quarter and several near-miss attempts on goal. Finally player of the match Lucy McNarry found the net with a skilful slip into the right corner of the net, following a great pass from Josine Van Den Berg. Unfortunately, Railway scored again but this was followed almost immediately after by a lovely goal from Sharon Phillips, again after a crucial pass from play-making Josine. Josine was on fire again, when she scored an impressive goal for City, giving the home team a respectable three. Staying composed, she looked at target and powered the ball in with a power-laden push shot from the top of the D. Railway were finally on the run by the closing stages of the game, yet still managed to score again. They were dangerous, skilful opposition and although City fought back and found their form again in the second half, it was unfortunately too late to pull the game back. However, City can console themselves with the fact that they kept fighting, stayed positive and were beginning to turn the game in their favour. Led by county coach Jason Harness, this Railway team seem to improve with each week and game that passes so if you are a betting man/woman I would put your money on Railway for promotion this season. Player of the match: Lucy McNarry

L (1-2) 04/02/2017 - W6 vs Evergreens 2 (A / L) A TOUGH GAME! |
---|
LADIES 6TH XI - 04/02/2017 VS EVERGREENS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 04/02/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 04/02/2017 HEADLINE: A tough game! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Greshams RESULT: Evergreens 2, Norwich 1 REPORT: This was a tough game. Short-of-players Evergreens resorted to lots of doubling up today. This resulted in an unusually strong second team that included several of their first teamers who play in the Premier division – two leagues above the 6s. Last time Norwich 6s met Evergreens at Taverham, it was an easy win. This time it was a different story and they pressed hard from the off, with a trio of strong players controlling the play and making threatening break after break. A confident Evergreens team cleared well on 16s with powerful, long-ball hits picked up by their waiting attackers. Norwich worked hard to keep them at bay, managing to make several strong attacks themselves. But a powerful Evergreens forward line, proved too much for City who went into the half-time break one nil down. The second half saw City having more of the play – but still fending off some serious attacks. They had a well-drilled routine to win short corners and this unfortunately resulted in a second goal for Evergreens – despite some brilliant saves from player of the match goalie Anna Linsmith. Norwich were strong on the attack, but turned the ball over frequently as the fast-paced Evergreens intercepted passes or presented City with a wall of green defenders around the top of the D. Despite the strong opposition, City still managed to look dangerous and had several tries on goal. Their hard work eventually paid off when a skilful pass in from Carey Briggs was expertly netted from the right by Lucy McNarry.

Their traditional-style of play, with its signature mighty hits, proved a challenge for the home team, repeatedly breaking through and having to be picked up a vigilant City defence. Similarly, any Norwich breaks were stopped in their tracks by a hefty Herlings’ defence line. The first half ended at a nil-nil draw. City had had a rethink at half time with much-appreciated help from pitch-side coach Dave Skinner and team strategy expert captain Julia Marchant. From the whistle, City now had the measure of Herlings, blocking passes much higher up the pitch and using their pace to drive forward. Herlings were finally on the retreat. Wave after wave of City attacks resulted in a short corner where Liz Hollis converted a brilliant pass from Josine Van Den Berg. Birthday girl Carol McNarry was on form today, blocking players coming through in midfield and passing up to daughter Lucy on the right wing. She also scored the second goal for City, firing in a powerful, long shot. City were finally off the back foot and in more control of the game, pressing much higher than in the first half with a wall of yellow and green and managing to stop most of the Herlings’ grass-style hits in midfield rather than letting them through. The third City goal came from Fran Cooke, showing amazing stick skills to take the ball into the D herself and make her way through the defence to find the net. It was one of the most impressive 6s goals of the season. Then with 10 minutes left to play, Liz Hollis scored again threading the ball through a series of Herlings legs to find the net. POM Liz Hollis

LADIES 6TH XI - 21/01/2017 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 21/01/2017 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 21/01/2017 HEADLINE: Deadlock until the last 10 minutes LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Cromer High School RESULT: North Norfolk 2s nil - Norwich City 6s one REPORT: This was one of City 6s toughest games of the season. So many chances, so many short corners, so much action in the attacking 25 area – yet the score-line stayed at zero for the first half. The City defensive unit worked together to pick off some fast- paced breaks from a very youthful North Norfolk attacking line. Indeed, it seemed a more effective opposition attack-unit than the last time these two teams met right back at the beginning of the seasoned when North Norfolk were kept at bay relatively easily. But, apparently it was the same personnel and the result of vast improvements in skill and confidence in the North Norfolk youth players since last September. This looks like a team to watch in the future. But despite their opponent’s skill and blocking tactics, City’s signature team-work and positive attitude allowed them to still have everything to play for as they repeatedly threatened the home team’s goal. City had to double their efforts and fight off a ring of opposition pink and blue challenging each player when they won the ball. It was tough to keep the ball and do anything meaningful with it - and it was tough to get it through to the attacking zone. The defensive unit also had to work extra hard to clear the ball safely as they were presented with an intensive press at every 16. The right side of the pitch was particularly hard to breach. Right full-back Emma Guyton had to dig deep as she was heavily pressurized by a wall of opposition players forcing her out to the side-line. Several times a skillful, small lift to Lucy McNarry was the only way through. Player of the match Annabelle Conway made some notable tackles and stayed strong on the left. Meanwhile, her back-row teammate, defender Annette Peters, also made some great clearances that defused several dangerous attacks and sent the ball powering off the sidelines to buy City some crucial breathing space. A half-time talk from captain Julia Marchant encouraged the team to play the ball safely, keep pressing and stay tough on the ball, which they duly did – only to face deadlock again for the next 20 minutes. The team also had to stay strong after they went down to 10 players for two minutes after midfielder Josine Van den Berg was green carded – for querying what seemed to be a highly controversial umpiring call and rather too much input from the home team's spectators! Finally, Fran Cooke broke the deadlock with just 10 minutes of play left with another of her goal-scoring signature specials. Bringing much relief among the City ranks, she netted at close range with a slightly lifted ball after a scramble in the D. The home-team pressed hard again, noisily encouraging each other to get one back against City in the remaining few minutes. But City stayed strong and positive and kept the ball mostly in their opponent’s half – breathing a sigh of relief at the final whistle and their hard-fought one-goal-to-nil victory. POM Annabelle Conway

A slightly faltering opening few minutes was soon dismissed as the sticks warmed up and the team left the turkey and mince pies behind and quickly discovered their usual game play after the Christmas break. City pressed hard and had the best of the play for almost all the match, but struggled to convert. Their tireless work around the D was peppered with several dangerous breaks from a youthful Pelicans which were scuppered by City’s defensive unit. Despite countless attempts on goal and lots of passing in and around the D, Pelicans blocked City’s numerous attacks. Eventually, player of the match Lucy McNarry scored from the right post towards the end of the first half after calmly slotting a pass from her mum Carol McNarry past the keeper. There was relief in the City ranks but awareness that the team needed to add to the tally to keep them safe. The second half saw more of the same with a strong City repeatedly attacking the home team’s defensive D. Then in her customary calm and collected style Fran Cooke scored an impressive goal in the final eight minutes of play with a slightly lifted ball following a long corner. Final score Pelicans nil, Norwich City 6s two goals. POM Lucy McNarry

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 6-2 Lost REPORT: This much anticipated top-of-the-table clash with Norwich City 5s saw an evenly matched first half with the ball moving end-to-end. A determined Norwich 6s pressed hard and Sharon Phillips scored an early goal for the team when she netted a right cross into the D. The 6s defence worked as a close and effective unit with POM Carol McNarry thwarting many of the fifth team attacks and powerfully outletting the ball to allow Norwich 6s to push forward repeatedly. However, the skilful attack unit in the 5s netted the ball soon after to even the score sheet. Norwich 6s went ahead again 20 minutes into the match, when Fran Cooke scored from the centre of the D. However, this was soon matched again by the 5s - taking the score to two-all as the teams went into half time. After the break the Norwich 5s pressed much harder and tougher and seemed to find the scoring prowess that has seen them dominate the division’s goal-count all season. The 5s scored four more in the second half as fatigue kicked-in for the 6s who had given the game their all. The team’s toughest game of the season so far. Final score 2-6 POM Carole McNarry

LADIES 6TH XI - 26/11/2016 VS YARMOUTH 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 26/11/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 26/11/2016 HEADLINE: Determined Sixes LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Cliff Park Academy RESULT: 4-0 Win REPORT: City take their best game to promotion challengers Yarmouth City expected a tough match against Yarmouth, who are just below them in the league tables and fighting for promotion, so the team took their best game with them to Cliff Park. During warm up players struggled to work out how to play on a Yarmouth astro surface which seemed devoid of bounce compared to the Taverham pitch and made the ball move much slower. Captain Julia Marchant gave a strict and motivating team talk and insisted the team play safe, short passes on the challenging astro turf and head out fighting and strong from the first whistle. Julia was convinced the team could win it by playing a tight game, marking out key players and passing carefully to avoid turning the ball over to a goal-hungry Yarmouth. City also brought some luck with them too. It was a surprisingly sunny, warm day and City opted to play the first half with the low sun behind them. Fortunately, by the second half the sky had clouded over a little so the team avoided playing into the sun at all. The Norwich team played tough and pressed hard from the start, blocking numerous Yarmouth attacks with co-ordinated midfield play from POM Maria Marsh and Carey Briggs together with strong, co-ordinated defensive teamwork at the very back. It took a few minutes to break down the Yarmouth defensive wall which seemed to intercept any balls heading towards their goal, but soon city found a way out and round and 10 minutes into play, attacker Sharon Phillips scored a carefully-placed goal when Fran Cooke threaded a ball neatly through the Yarmouth defense. Yarmouth seemed surprised and out of sorts and their heads went down. A few minutes later a powerful ball into the D from Josine Van Den Berg found Sharon Phillips again who kept her cool and slotted a second past the keeper. City went into the break two nil up and were determined to keep a clean sheet in their defensive goal. The second half saw City ramp the pressure up and the hard work soon paid off when captain Julia Marchant deftly lifted the ball over the keeper who had dived to the floor during a goal mouth scramble. Yarmouth had several nail-biting attacks and goalie Anna Linsmith made several fantastic saves to keep Yarmouth off the scoresheet. Yarmouth also broke through in a three on one. It looked like a certain goal, but they fluffed the ball left and wide of the goal and couldn’t finish into the net. The final moments of the match, saw Yarmouth under constant attack as central defender Carol McNarry powered some strong balls down the City wing. Finally, another goal mouth scramble saw a fourth goal from City’s Fran Cooke. A job well done. Player of the match to Maria Marsh.

LADIES 6TH XI - 12/11/2016 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 6 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/11/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/11/2016 HEADLINE: Deadock LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: Local derby deadlock again Previous season’s matches between these two local derby 6th teams have ended in a draw. However, second-in-the-league City were hoping to capitalise on their recent good form and run of wins to end the deadlock against a currently mid-table Dragons. It was not to be. Yet again the two teams were evenly match with play constantly moving from end to end. Although they have scored few goals this season, this Dragons team have one of the best defensive records in the Norfolk league, letting in just a handful of goals. City knew it would be a tough job to score and so it proved to be. City started well for the first 10 minutes, but a well-prepared Dragons team had come expecting a difficult game and their captain had instructed them to press their whole team high apart from three players and to intercept at pace and break down City’s passing patterns. Towards the end of the first half, City were struggling to move the ball around in their usual patterns and found themselves facing more circle penetrations than they have defended in the past few matches. However, the D unit and some admirable saves from goalkeeper Anna Linsmith kept the ball safely out of the back of the net. The second half saw City come out fighting harder and growing more accustomed to a new formation that they were playing for the first time in this match. As a result City managed more circle penetrations and direct threats on Dragons’ goal, including a just-wide deflection by Sharon Phillips. However, the well-drilled Dragons defensive unit scuppered several attempts on goal and four short-corners and City had to work hard to contain Dragons’ repeated breaks as the ball was cleared from them after a Norwich attack. Plenty of chances, one of our toughest games this season and yet again deadlock. Player of the match went to Emma Turner for her skillful runs down the line out of the defence.

The whole team operated a high and effective press, working as a tight unit to force the play into Watton’s defensive area for much of the game. Every player in the Norwich squad gave it their all with their growing confidence as a team and their experience giving them the edge over a young, but plucky Watton. Any breaks through from the Watton team were mopped up effectively by the Norwich defence. The whole team moved forward as a unit working the ball around to repeatedly penetrate the Watton D and create plenty of chances. The 13 goals came throughout both halves of the game. Player of the match Fran Cooke netted five goals, Lucy McNarry scored four, Maria Marsh scored two, Liz Hollis and Josine Van Den Berg also scored one each making a total of 13 goals. W (3-0) 22/10/2016 - W6 vs Evergreens 2 (H / L) ANOTHER WIN! |

LADIES 6TH XI - 22/10/2016 VS EVERGREENS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 22/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 22/10/2016 HEADLINE: Another win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-0 Win REPORT: First half Norwich City 6s had the best of the play in the first half but luck wasn’t on the home team’s side and they struggled to net several chances. Meanwhile, strong defending kept Evergreens at bay, including some essential work from Carey Briggs playing centre back for the first time to make good use of her speed and fitness. Midfield and the Norwich defence unit worked tirelessly to ensure there were no Evergreen overloads in the home team D. Several hit-and-hope outlets by Evergreens on 16s shifted the play towards Norwich’s goal end but the ball was soon cleaned up and cleared out. By the half-time whistle Norwich had nothing on the score sheet to show for their work, but several almost-goals by Norwich’s hungry and hard-working attack line, and not much trouble for the home team keeper, made it seem as if a goal would eventually come. Second half A team talk from captain Julia Marchant helped Norwich maintain their shape in the second half. Evergreens’ attacks consistently came down their left flank and Norwich risked being pulled across, losing an option to switch play if need be. Norwich also prepared themselves for a beefed-up Evergreens side as the visitors subbed on a first team player. However, she failed to make much difference to the side, thanks to some strong defensive work from Norwich including some impressive tackles and clearances from midfielder Jane Loughridge. At times Evergreens also failed to keep their sticks tight on the ball when receiving, allowing space and time for Norwich to steal it from them and make yet another attack. Norwich continued to have the best of the play with a much better shape in the second half, although still unable to switch direction of play as well as they usually do – perhaps due to the predominance of one-sided left attacks by Evergreens. The home team pressed even harder in the second half and finally their relentless attacking paid off when Julia Marchant netted a ball slipped through several defenders and into the D by Fran Cooke. The second goal came when Lucy McNarry scored a skilful reverse-stick goal from a rebound off the keeper. With just 10 minutes left of play, Sharon Phillips sent in a cross which was netted by Josine Van Den Berg to take the home team to a three nil victory. POM Jane Loughridge

D (1-1) 15/10/2016 - W6 vs Herlings (A / L) THE CHALLENGE OF GRASS! |
---|
LADIES 6TH XI - 15/10/2016 VS HERLINGS (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 15/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 15/10/2016 HEADLINE: The challenge of grass! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: East Harling Recreational Ground RESULT: 1-1 (draw) REPORT: This week was ‘grass week’ as Norwich 6s travelled to Herlings. The East Harling team is the last remaining squad in any of the Norfolk leagues to play on grass so it is an annual one-off for the 6s. This meant that, inevitably, it took five to ten minutes of slightly nail-biting play before the Norwich team adjusted to the surface. Balls bobbled, sticks had to be more upright and 3D skills didn’t really work but eventually they settled and began to have the best of the play persistently threatening Herlings goal. It was impressive work from the Norwich team who dominated the first half. Eventually, Lucy McNarry netted the ball after a goal mouth scramble. Herlings pressed harder in the second half, breaking frequently but kept at bay by Carey Briggs and the midfield and the defensive unit Jane Loughridge, Emma Guyton, Netty Peters and Clair Richardson with some vital sweeping up work by captain Julia Marchant. The D team gave it everything working with Carol McNarry, playing in goal for the first time. Herlings, used to grass, had some heavy hitting defenders who powered the ball to high players in what looked like a well-rehearsed routine. Norwich defeated most of the attacks but unfortunately one bobbled ball slipped past the keeper just inside the right post. POM went to Carey Briggs again for fantastic workrate in mid and defence.

W (3-2) 08/10/2016 - W6 vs North Norfolk 2 (H / L) ANOTHER WIN! |

LADIES 6TH XI - 08/10/2016 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 08/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 08/10/2016 HEADLINE: Another win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-2 (Win) REPORT: The home team were prepared for a tough game and came out fighting and organised from the push back whistle. The teamwork paid off and they made repeated forays into the North Norfolk defensive D. Fifteen minutes into play Lucy McNarry opened the scoring for Norwich when she expertly netted a pass from midfielder Jane Loughridge into the far right corner of the goal. North Norfolk continued to press but were kept at bay by Norwich’s hard working D-unit as well as some crucial saves by goalkeeper Charlotte Harrad. Towards the end of the first half, Norwich scored a second goal. This time from a short corner as Sharon Phillips passed the ball to Fran Cooke who calmly slotted it past the keeper. After the break North Norfolk upped their game, and the play was tougher for Norwich. The home team still made several breaks through and eventually Liz Hollis deflected a powerful shot from Josine Van Den Berg to take Norwich City a comfortable three nil ahead. With the clock ticking down, North Norfolk worked yet harder and began to hold the play in Norwich’s defensive 25. They scored two goals within the space of a few minutes of each other and the lead began to appear less certain as the visitors looked likely to score again. Norwich fended off the threat for the rest of the game, however, to leave the final score three goals to Norwich 6s and two goals to North Norfolk 2s. LADIES 6TH XI - 01/10/2016 VS LOWESTOFT RAILWAY 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 01/10/2016 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 01/10/2016 HEADLINE: A good workout LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: East Point Academy, Lowestoft RESULT: 1-0 (Win) REPORT: First half. A youthful and organised Lowestoft Railway pressed hard and moved the ball around a pivot player to constantly change their direction of attack. However, Norwich’s defence of Charlotte Harrod, Clair Richardson, Annabelle Conway and Emma Guyton kept their heads and battled to keep a clean sheet. Hard work in midfield and some excellent clearances by the defence allowed Norwich to repeatedly break and seriously threaten the home team’s goal with Norwich winning several short corners. Then 15 minutes into the first half Norwich converted a short corner with Josine Van Den Berg netting a ball fired towards the goal by Carol McNarry. Second half. The home team pressed harder in the second half but attempt after attempt was rebutted by Norwich’s hard working defence whose experience and strength on the ball allowed them to continually disarm the youthful Lowestoft attackers. Anna Linsmith in goal was called into play constantly and made several important saves right on the line which kept a dismayed Lowestoft out of the game. POM – Carey Briggs for her tireless running in midfield. Match report provided by Liz Hollis

Norwich City 6s continued to press hard threatening the visitors’ goal several times with near misses by Anna Linsmith and Sharon Phillips. Then, close to the half-time whistle, Liz Hollis slotted the ball behind Pelican’s keeper during a goal-mouth scramble - taking Norwich into the lead. Second half Pelicans came out fighting in the second half but failed to convert their chances. Norwich added to their lead when Julia Marchant deftly netted the ball from a short corner. Pelicans worked hard to get back in the game and scored again with just seconds to go before the final whistle. An excellent team performance and first win of the season.
